Kirk Slaughter, director of public events for the City of Fort Worth, confirmed talks with former Indiana Pacers General Manager David Kahn about bringing a National Basketball Developmental League team to the Fort Worth Convention Center for the 2005-06 season.

Okay, then. Though it's kind of out of the way from the rest of the NBDL teams.

Kahn indicated that an NBDL team in Fort Worth could bring as many as 4,500 fans to each of its home games, Slaughter said.

And I'm indicating that David Kahn is off his rocker because there hasn't been an NBDL team that has drawn 4,500 to each of its home games ever. It's not happening.

More then likely I see the Fort Worth team getting one of the current teams. Florida was supposed to be an expansion but instead a team relocated there. I don't expect the NBDL to ever get past 10 teams.

I've heard rumors that the NBDL would be coming to Rio Rancho, NM.
This is a suburb of Albuquerque, and this would be dependent on the proposed new arena actually getting built.

In the same article we can see this :

Slaughter said he's talked with several different basketball leagues over the last few years, including the Texas Rim Rockers of the now-defunct United States Basketball League. But the Rim Rockers played elsewhere, when they played.

What's this ? the now-defunct United States Basketball League ? Is this a false rumor ? Does the journalist have a strange information nobody knows ?
Can someone tell more about it ?

I think the "now-defunct" is misplaced there. Put it in front of "Texas Rim Rockers" and it makes sense.

Well, from the two stories, it seems to me Stern is going right on with his NBDL expansion plans. I think he might move one or two teams he currently has.

The Ft. Worth imprint may simply be a big splash to nail down 4-5 teams elsewhere nearby. Certainly the population numbers work out.
