Somehow I get a feeling we'll be hearing another episode of ABA Radio before too long, with special guest ABA CEO Joe Newman running down Detroit and Quebec (and to a lesser extent, Manchester and Vermont).

Cheer up, Joe. You've still got the NYC Internationalz, the Philadelphia Sounds, the Houston Takers, the Detroit Zamfirs and the Utica Wreckers. Things have to be looking up!

The Wreckers just keep moving up the power chart, don't they?

Of course, right now ABALive.com has 24 teams listed as "current" and they include -

Atlanta Vision
Bahama All Pro Show (at least until they claim that they can't afford to travel to a road game)
Beijing Aoshen Olympian (who plays in Singapore and won't travel to the USA any more)
Boston Blizzard (and their two teams, one for home and one for travel)
First State Fusion (are they still around??)
Georgia Gwizzlies (hukd onn fonix wurkz 4 me)
Houston Takers (Larry's too busy building arenas, starting up minor league basketball magazines and building 25,000 bicycles to get this team back up and running again)
Jersey Express
Long Beach Breakers
Manchester Millrats (left for PBL)
Maywood Buzz (may be Joe's last supporter)
Monterrey Veneno (still in neutral)
Montreal Royal (may or may not be PBL bound)
Orange County Gladiators (with their ugly cheerleaders)
Quebec Kebekwa (left for PBL)
San Diego Wildcats
San Francisco Rumble
St. Louis Stunners (folded last year, but this is the ABA so they get another chance)
Strong Island Sound (folded in mid-season)
Syracuse Raging Bullz (folded in mid-season)
Texas Tycoons
Vermont Frost Heaves (left for PBL)
West Texas Whirlwinds (what are they going to play four or more games this year?)
Westchester Phantoms (yeah, right)

Typical ABA.

I found some footage from the press conference where Quebec announced they were going to the PBL. This was their commentary to the ABA:

(No, it's not a rick-roll).

I really can't see how the ABA will make it through this season on the court. Only Atlanta, Texas and San Diego are capable of what it takes to be considered professional organizations. Who knows if Texas or the Wildcats will even stick around?

Joe has got to love this!

Great news for the PBL, Kebs fans and Quebec City!

Well done Kebs ... Well done! :-D

A smart decision by another minor league basketball ownership group!

The PBL needs to be very careful here about taking in wayward ABA teams en masse. (I know they're not doing it en masse just yet, but it's trending that way.)

I don't know much about the Kebs franchise, but, at some point, if you take enough ABA teams, what you have is the ABA. They're not all worth taking.

Just unsolicited advice: Don't take all (or even most) of the ABA teams that apply to jump to the PBL. All of these people were dumb enough to join the ABA in the first place, that isn't exactly a bright spot on their resumes.

When the stock price is low, I BUY!!!

QUESTION: How much is ABA stock going for these days?

The EGGS might just happen, If the infamous JN hits me up with a PM, i'd think about joining if the price was right (Two teams for $19.99)

One team would go 36-0 and the other would be 0-36, (I think Sante Fe and Gallup used this strategy with mixed results); I however, have been studying the Buzz and I think I could be the first dude to turn a real profit in this leaque.

I'd even share my books with you guys on-line, even Standard would see the EGGS as a great buy and invest. I have the blueprint, all the infamous JN has to do is recruit me like Tim Floyd recruits 8th graders.

I did not know that Standard. Wow.

Joe must be reeling............

In the last 5 months his league has lost
Quebec (hosted great Eight 8)
Vermont (arguably best team on and off the court)
Manchester (big money, committed owner)
Halifax (just plain gone)
Strong Island (the CFO's own team)
Brad Hester (Joes's stepson)
Hamilton (expansion franchise)

and has added..................

the Detroit Zafirs.

QUESTION: How much is ABA stock going for these days?

It just dropped to .005 a share

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=ABKB.PK

The USBL is at .55 a share despite not operating this season.

Another iffy minor-league stock (actually a junior league) is the "new" WHA at .0006 a share.

From the last thing the ABA ever filed with the SEC

"In view of our accumulated deficit and recurring losses there is substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern."

Yes folks, .005 is exactly one half of a cent. So, one could purchase (And I know there isn't anyone out there who is stupid enough to do this.) five million shares for $25,000. For those who for a laugh, and have $500.00 that is burning a hole in their pocket, 100,000 shares can be purchased for the grand sum of $500.00. One hundred shares will run you a whole.......50 cents.

I don't think anyone here would argue with you about that. However, the PBL has managed to get three of the six strongest franchises in the ABA to jump ship.

I don't think the PBL would take most of what's left but Texas is still on the table. San Diego is too far to travel for the rest of the league.

I know T. Boone Pickens has been busy making a lot of investments lately, but he wouldn't touch this.

Using your equation, I've noticed that rolls of toilet paper cost about 50 cents for a 1,000 sheets in bulk. 5,000,000 sheets of toilet paper is about 5,000 rolls. The 5,000 rolls of toilet paper is about $2,500.

I'd rather buy the toilet paper than the ABA stock.

Yes i gave 3 grand to the Harlem Revs 4 years ago that ended up becoming the Harlem Strong Dogs.
3 grand so the f'n owner can run away and not pay his players. 3 grand on false pretense that he was going to play all of his games at the Nat Holman Gym of The City University Of New York. Oh well, I was stupid. Nevermore.
Thats why i will never ever invest in American basketball leagues. PBL maybe, yes maybe. CBA to hell not. That lying prick of Ricardo is a great cause of disaster in Minor league basketball.

I seem to remember this team. Didn't they end up in the hands of Japanese investors at some point?

Not sure about the investors, but this team "moved" to Tampa Bay. Made
some noise about returning "next season", a few years back. Then, like
most ABA fantasies, slipped into oblivion shortly thereafter.

Well the team was owned by a jerkoff named Wray M. Wade. He jerked myself and the sponsors of the team which were Kaizen International who them became the owners of the Revs and turned them into the Strong Dogs.

Looking at ABALIVE.COM it seems Mr. Newman doesn't have anyone to update the site! I mean 'cease & desist' letters were sent to the teams that left the ABA, but how about them 'ceasing & desisting' from still using those teams names???

I know the scam looks more impressive to the neophyte when Vt, Manchester, & Quebec are still listed.

Seriously, the ABA is practically a vegetable on life support now. The only viable teams left (that could/would play more than a handful of games) are:

Atlanta Vision
Jersey Express
Long Beach Breakers
Maywood Buzz
Orange County Buzz
San Diego Wildcats
San Francisco Rumble
Texas Tycoons

Lets give the NY Internationalz, the Buffalo Sharks, and Nashville the benefit of the doubt...thats still only 11 teams and now they are SPREAD AROUND THE COUNTRY like the CBA!!

The funny thing is the "balance of power" (and I use that term loosely) in the ABA has now shifted to the West Coast...a bastion of low attendance and failed ABA teams in the past.

Hey Heath.

Bad BSN season for Izzy. Well, the ABA has nerve to send Cease and Desist letters, they mean nothing especially when these teams like in any minor league can get up and go anywhere they want.

I totally suggest that the California teams create their own league and play at least a 15-20 game schedule amongst themselves even having games in one venue as a league showcase. I say this because gas prices are now at 4 dollars in California, 5 for diesel(I have diesel car along with a hybrid).

Joe Newman should cease and desist from existing at all and he can take Isiah Thomas with him to Dante's house.
