I heard that the Rapz are expecting 6-7 thousand on Thursday night for the Opener. Only 6,578 is needed to set a new league record. Should be a great time.
A few tidbits I know of: the Rapidz Girls dance team and a musical game based on a TV show.

That is really great news. I was at the last pro ballgame in Ottawa and couldn't be happier that you were able to fill the void. I won't be able to use my free tickets from the name the team contest this Saturday since I'll be in Pennsylvania, but I hope to get up there at least once this summer to catch the Can-Am league action.

Hope they get a big crowd. Over 6,000 would be great. I will be there. Hope the rain holds off.

The Rapidz had an attendance of about 1,000 for their only exibition game, YES EXIBITION GAME, against a Can-Am team (Quebec) on sunday. There's no better way to gauge the interest of the region for the team.
Would be great if they could fill the place on thursday... over 9,000!
From what I've heard, they could very well set an attendance record for the season! Miles Wolff sure knew what he was doing in picking up the remainig of the stadium's lease from the AAA team!

It's nice to see you guys have high expectations but I think people are being way over optimistic. Based on the tickets that are still available for sale on the website, I'd guess a crowd of around 3,000 to 4,000 is more likely (and even that might be generous).
Here's how I came up with that estimate. I went to the ticket website and checked to see where I could get 10 adult tickets in each lower section (that should indicate where the section really thins out). Then I assumed that every ticket closer to the field is sold (a very optimistic assumption but it should allow me to ignore any tickets sold farther away from the field). Then I added the (optimistic) numbers up and it came to around 3,300. With today's weather I don't expect a huge walk-up crowd.
Anyways, that's still a nice crowd to start with. Hopefully the weekend games are around that number as well. I'd hate to see the expectations get set so high that this kind of crowd is a disappointment.

Ottawa is known as a massive walk up city rain or shine.Take last yearss world under 20 soccer championship.A few days there were 10,000 just in walk up ticket sales.I would be guessing the walk up crowd today will be 2500.

Sorry but I don't agree in this case. I know the Riders used to count on a large walk-up crowd, but that was for a 'once every couple of weeks' game. I don't think the Renegades ever achieved the same level of walk-ups. I can understand a good walk-up crowd for the soccer last year (although I'm not sure I believe 10,000), but that was a special event that had a ton of publicity and public awareness. I don't think enough people are aware of the Rapids opening game to create a walk-up crowd anywhere near that number. Add in the iffy weather and I just don't see it. I guess we'll know later tonight.

RapidsFan, I suggest you come and watch the game from the restaurant.
As for the weather, it rained for about ten minutes in the last half hour. Checking the weather network web site, there is only a 20% chance of precipitation, cloudy and a cool 10 degrees. It says "We don't expect any precipitation from Thursday Evening to Friday Afternoon." and the sun just showed up.
So it looks good weather-wise.

Ottawa as a whole is a very massive walk up city as this has been said. The sneators/67s/olympics gets massive walk up crowds.Alot of the times teams have 3/4 home games on any given week.Even concerts and events in ottawa rely on walk up crowds.I could go on with these staats. As for not enough people knowing about the rapidz i really don't agree. This week it has been all rapidz in both major papers on tv station even today on the team 1200 there was a speical on with rick anderson.
