The Tycoons (8-2) were scheduled to play Juarez on Thursday, but the Mexican team was dissolved just before the season. Oklahoma City was slotted in as a substitute, but that team also has failed to get off the ground.

So Texas scheduled the Baton Rouge Hurricanes for Thursday. However, because of legality issues -- Texas holds the rights to the Hurricanes name -- Baton Rouge was forced to pull out, leaving only Calgary to fill in.

Calgary had not played an official ABA game this season, and at the end of a bus trip that took around 35 hours over the past couple of days, arrived at Thomas Coliseum 20 minutes before game time.

Oh.

My.

God.

"Legality issues over the name" sounds like the single lamest ABA excuse ever, and in this league, that's saying something.

So what? The freaking Jersey Jaguars changed their name to Sky Cats and didn't tell anyone. Just have the freaking Baton Rouge team show up and play as Baton Rouge. I thought they were the Cajun Pelicans anyway? WTF is with this league?

Why make Calgary bus to Texas?

Did I tell you Ruby Richman shouldn't be in charge of a team? Do you believe me now?

What makes even less sense is that Calgary has to play in New Jersey tonight!!

Are the going to bus there too??? I realize that the bus is much cheaper, but unless you can do a round-trip, playing a number of games along the way, it makes no sense at all!!

The Calgary Drillers may have set a new record for a professional sports debuting in it's first week of competition. Traveling from Calgary Alberta to Fort Worth Texas to Harlem New York to New Jersey and then to Portland Oregon and back to Calgary and if they did that in a direct line they would have put on 5,100 miles!
Calgary to Fort Worth 1525 miles
Fort Worth to Harlem 1401 miles
Harlem to Portland 1610 miles
Portland to Calgary 553 miles
Strange how the ABA would simply not schedule them to play against
Calgary to Salt Lake 723 miles
Salt Lake to Portland 553 miles
Portland to Bellevue 436 miles
Bellevue to Calgary 436 miles
For a total of 2,148 as the crow flies saving 3,000 miles travel?
Maybe it’s the penalty for late entry
