Finally.

Does this mean Vermont is leaving as well? The Millrats have stated that they would be playing against the Frost Heaves next season.

Took a few days to get the info from an excellent source, but Manchester is off to the PBL.

I think this is a pattern (leaving the ABA) worth repeating for those teams who have the desire to be top rate minor league basketball organizations.

Good for Manchester, they're a good organization and have put themselves in a totally different class than those still in the ABA, good to see they finally got out. It sounds like its true if you have a1 and chris confirming, so congrats Millrats!

So who will be next...

I'm not surprised that Manchester's gone, but I am surprised that it's to the PBL instead of the CBA. The owners were seen at a Patroons game late in the season (reported in the Albany Times Union) and it looks like a would be a better fit in terms of travel. On the other hand, with Rochester being reasonably close, it looks like a good deal for Manchester.

Congratulations to the Millrats organization for moving to a professional basketball league!

Now that all is said and done, when should we expect an official announcement?

BTW, expect Joe to come out with another phony Ask the CEO, saying how undisciplined they were and how they're a terrible example for a basketball team (even though that didn't stop him from keeping them in)

When he was allowed at the big kids table...

The American Basketball Association named Ian McCarthy of the Manchester Millrats as its General Manager of the Year for the 2007-2008 season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "It was a very close race between four GM's, but looking at the overall job Ian did in putting together a great team both on and off the court, and the help and support he provided to the league itself, we felt that he was very deserving of the honor."

"We always play hard for Ian because we know he has our best interest at heart." (Player PJ Young)

"On a limited time schedule, limited staff and limited budget, he turned our expansion team into a contender." (Co-owner Jason Briggs)

"Ian took a shot on me at mid-season and changed my life for the better." (Player Al Stewart)

"No one deserves this award more than Ian. His never ending work ethic is unmatched." (Player Chris Burns)

"He just makes it obvious to all of us around him that he has tremendous passion for his organization and just the game in general." (Player Anthony Anderson)

The Manchester Millrats gained community support with excellent programs, had outstanding sponsor support, worked closely with the Vermont Frost Heaves and the Quebec Kebekwa to make the All Star Game and Championship Playoffs a success, took his team to Nova Scotia, the Bahamas and to Singapore twice, provided excellent stats, a great web site and a steady stream of excellent press releases.
"We thought we had the Championship in our sights," said coaches Larry Leggett and Heath Teixeira. "Ian gave us the players and we came very close. We're proud to be a part of this great organization under such capable leadership."

How long until there is an ABA team in Nashua?

Good for the Millrats.

Hopefully, more will leave this sinking ship soon.

Wow!!!

1/ Joe announces Ian as GM of the year
2/ the new podcast ABALIFE says " shout out and congratulations to Ian McCarthy of Manchester UNITED for being GM of the year"
3/ They abandon ship

This is a big hit for the ABA too. Manchester was a great organization, the ownership also controls the Cape Cod Frenzy liscence and the market reservation of Providence. They always put on a good show during Boston Frenzy games.

This is exactly what we predicted would happen to Vermont and Alex too. That he can be as good an organization as he wants, but the league will disintegrate around him.

Next stop on the ABA-Collapse-apoolooza?..................Quebec City says au revoir Joe

Good work A1. The guy has consistently found the stories and the truth behind them.
