NEW SOUTH CHICAGO ALL-STARS TO HOLD TRYOUT

21-Apr-2008
Chicago, IL. The newly announced ABA South Chicago All-Stars have announced its first tryout camp for Sunday, April 27th to be held at South Surburban College from 9am-12pm.

"I'd like to get a look at some of the local talent available," said team owner Ron Hicks. "Now's as good a time as any to start putting together a competitive team and there are a lot of great players in the area."

I'll give them 1, maybe 2 games max before folding, hell I wouldn't be surprised if they folded before playing any.

The Throwbacks have been the only ABA (now PBL) team to actually complete the season, how many others have failed? 6 or 7? I just don't see another franchise like the Throwbacks coming along that doesn't fold after a few games.

What astounded me was the South Chi-Town Inferno folded and now the coach is back for more!!!!!!!!!

This is a team that couldn't afford to play away games in the exact same city they were located in. In fact they had 2 other teams from Chicago and still couldn't afford the travel. It just beggars belief.

Somebody needs to call the DEA on this one. There is some funky stuff being smoked here. You've had teams folding because they couldn't afford bus or rail passes in Chicago.
Owner probably thinks he has a winning strategy (maybe these are Joe's keys to success): I take out a second mortgage and max out my credit cards for the market reservation fee. I use the player tryout fees to try and stay afloat until the season starts. Then when I throw the doors open and nobody shows up because I didn't have enough money for marketing (much less the coaches and staff), I wet myself and when the bills come due, I fold the team.
