Okay, here you go. This is not open to debate, nor am I about to reveal the sources. But here is what will happen. Yakama will be back with new owners. Butte will not come back. Atlanta will be back but it will move to another part of the State. Pitt will be back but they will be moved to another State. The CBA will welcome two new franchises and quite possibly a third they will join Kentucky, Oklahoma, Minot, Albany and the other remaining clubs. The CBA will be back for another season. Remember you heard it here first
What?!?! THE XPLOSION ARE MOVING OUT OF STATE??????????????? GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS I NEED TO CONFIRM BY ASKING THE TEAM THEMSELVES!! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If true, I'm out of here!!

Without Butte, who will be Yakima's travel partner? Atlanta's coming back? Is this a new ownership group or the same set of complete failures as before?
I just remembered, they CAN'T move, they are in the third year of a 5 year contract!! Besides we host the All-Star game. Nice try one way!! You had me going for a minute. Their moving would be breach of contract.

Raise your hand if this reaction surprises you.
*crickets*
That's what I thought.
EDIT...I'm sure the arena will not care about the breach of contract in this case, and as stated before, the All-Star Game means jack squat in regards to Pittsburgh's survival.
We'll be back, rams. I know that you've always been critical of us and this league. You disregard that I'm a diehard fan of the Xplosion and you just don't want us around(for whatever reason). That's sad. Well, we shall return, despite all negativism toward us!

I don't disregard that you are a diehard fan. You disregard the fact that you are pretty much the only fan the Xplosion have in town...diehard or otherwise. I'm the voice of reality here, not borderline lunatic optimism. I have difficulty seeing Pittsburgh returning with the way the things are in that market.

I am sure you have good sources and the plan makes sense, but lets be honest...in this league 26 new scenarios could come up between now and November. I hope the league comes back, it is too bad that they won't be in Montana (although according to some peoples logic they will be here for 2 more years due to a contract issue).
Keep us posted as things change.
Believe what you want about the Xplosion, ram. But the X are returning. The fact that they have offseason activities tells me that. It's just a question of which league. The fact that we drew 2,582 that one game gives me more confidence(apparently you forgot that).

which is about 2580 more then they drew the rest of the season.

So?? They have to start someplace.
I get so sick and tired of the so called 'critics' looking at our attendence, rather than how good the team was! WE ARE STILL HERE!!

Not open to debate?!? Aren't you the same screen name that said I would be eating crow because the Steelheads were returning to the CBA?!?
The CBA will be back though. I agree. It's become the second coming of the ABA.

Obviously PBSF you are the ultimate ---- ---.
The Sunkings are the most succesful CBA on court team ever? And what happened. So the fact that Pitt had a decent season, means they will be in Pitt forever. I cant expect a reasonable response.

..people had been talking about Atlanta being bought and moving to Columbus, GA for a while. Atlanta is just too big to make a minor league team have a foothold.
The former SunKings owner was quoted in the paper saying he would have an interest in buying the team again. Especially with the Sonics leaving Seattle, having Yakima back in the league would seemingly be a good thing.
As for Pittsburgh, people focus on attendance, because without attendance, you can't pay the bills. The question is where would they go? Ohio? West Virginia? Maryland? Or somewhere far from Pittsburgh?
New teams? I would guess Manchester, NH and one other ABA Northeast team.
I realize that attendence is needed, but I refuse to believe anything as far as re-location by the Xplosion, since they have a lease. Some don't hold water to that, but I trust the ownership will honor it and promote the X more.
As far as Pgh being too big for this league? Hogwash!!
to add that I saw that article in the Yakima Herald. The Sun Kings are still owned by the tribe, until that topic is discussed at the league meetings. So don't discount them yet. They can still return by overriding the vote.

Leases mean jack-diddly when you have a financially struggling minor league team. If you can move to a better, more viable market, you will. If you cannot make enough money to survive in your current locale, you can bet you will try very hard to get out of said killer lease, and the arena likely will let you.

Minor league teams historically struggle (or just flat out die) in major league markets. The typical sports fan in these cities will see the minor league team as being beneath their major league status, and will therefore refuse to give the minor league team the time of day.
Honestly...it is (very) debatable that the Xplosion is even the best basketball team in Pittsburgh. I seem to recall Pitt having a pretty good year. So you will struggle to get Pittsburgh's basketball fans to come.

Override which vote? I thought the Tribe pulled the plug...following a vote, so I doubt they will change their mind. The CBA sure as heck will not tell the Tribe "You have to field a team," because legally they can't.

I think panchess said Atlanta was too big for this league. There are too many entertainment options in Atlanta for the CBA. There are also too many entertainment options in Pittsburgh for the CBA, IMO.

..and it's really spread out. On a work-related issue (I am a community development planner by trade), somebody in Western New York pointed out that even as Buffalo declines, there are more people within 90 minutes of the Bills' Ralph Wilson Stadium than the same distance from the Georgia Dome.
The Atlanta metropolitan area, grown like a weed since 1950 from less than a million to 5.5 million, incorporates almost 9,000 square miles. It's hard to get a presence in a place like that without TV.
As for Pittsburgh, it's 2.5 million with three major league teams and a D1 power conference football and basketball team. It's hard to anybody else to get traction.
All you 'know it alls' who think you know my team better than me, IF they leave, I can promise you, you will NOT see me on here again!
As for the best team, I never said they were the best team in this city, I mean they were among the best in the CBA(record-wise).
As far as area competition, the team has to PROMOTE te get noticed!! After that, it's up to the fans to decide where to spend at.
But the Xplosion WILL be back!!

psbf,
Here's a dose of reality... people are NOT faulting you for supporting the X (nobody wants to see their team leave) or trashing the X, but what is getting under their skin is your inability to face the the cold hard facts that the X along with a number of other CBA teams can fold at anytime. Just saying that the X need to promote more is not going to save the team. Even if the X spend millions of dollars on promotion there's still no guarantee that they would draw huge crowds -- that's just the reality of minor league basketball. Just look at the Miners -- a good organization in a town with no competition and they still have a tough time bringing fans in. Its okay to be passionate, but you are no less of a fan for being objective and examining the cold hard facts. Sorry for the lecture.
with all due respect, Wellington, it's easy for someone to predict the demise of a team. But nobody bothers to think of the consequences on how the supporters(however many) would be affected.
The Xplosion have been around for three seasons(overall) and we will be back!! So watch what you wish for. I'm aware that the X have spent much on their lease, which I'm guessing is a reason why they don't promote much. But look for them to return. Because if they fall one season, you will be minus one fan.

Your logic escapes me. This is a business, not a public service. They most likely could car less about how you would be effected if they were to move.

we engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed Pittsburghian..... there is no chance that a lease keeps a team in town when they don't outdraw the visiting teams.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But just because the Xplosion have not released any info lately, does not mean they are dead. At any suspicion, you are ALL prepared to burry us at ANY oppertunity. Especially one, who released this stuff without any proof!!
Chuck, you have always been supportive of the X. I'm surprised!

I think we can ALL agree on one thing and therefore we all have to hope, root and pray that the X remains in Pittsburgh and the CBA....I can't imagine this world, this league or this board without PSBF. His unique perspective which is CLEARLY unburdened by any evidence of business sense and based on blind love and unconditional support for the X is something that truely fascinates everyone and something I thing we can all learn from. Love your team while they are there, focus on the floor because we have no control or frankly any knowledge of the shinanagins that goes on behind the door. The state of all minor league basketball is a mess, so com'on guys, PSBF is our hero! He is what unites us in this state of uncertainty, not knowing what bad news is released next and until the collective act is "gotten together"! We all wish we could be more like him, who has the guts to admit it? :infun:

PSBF,
The reality of the situation is that if the Xplosion are losing money, they will either disband or move to another location where the opportunities are better.
Basketball is a business and it is about making money and there are no two ways about it. If I look at my checkbook at the end of the month and find I am spending more than I am making, then changes have to be made. On a much larger scale the same is true for basketball teams. If there is not enough money to pay the bills, then things have to change. Look at the NBA and the Sonics situation. The Sonics have been in Seattle for 40 years and now they are packing up for Oklahoma City. It is all about the money and as much as you would like to think the fans matter; money is more important.
Chris, you know that I admire and respect you. But with that in mind, why should I take the words of posters on here when I have seen and heard nothing official on it? As far as I'm concerned, I am ready to purchase tickets for next season. And if/until I do hear something, I'm ready for next season.
Taking the word of someone on here(original poster) is like preparing to leave a building after some one yells 'fire' when you don't smell smoke.

PSBF, please, sports and X aside, if someone yells fire in a building, even if you don't smell smoke, get out. There will be time later to figure out if the smell of smoke was out of your nostril's range or not and if it was a false alarm or not!

Please dont say you dont care and if you dont read it, your going to buy tickets next year.

PSBF, I wish you would just talk to your X connections to find out what is going on. Waiting until May is too long.
I appreciate your concern, Skippy, and if the Xplosion website was untouched I would. But, if anyone is smart enough to actually visit the X site, they would see that the X are making appearances in the month of May, starting with the Lifexpo this weekend at Heinz Field. And they are hosting a Hoops classic at the Monroeville Expo Mart on the 23rd. I'll be at at least one of those. So please, save your concerns for the teams who really need them, like the ones in Montana or the Atlanta Krunk.

It is no more ridiculous and tiresome than 100's of posts saying the same thing about a team that draws 500 people and none of us realize the potential, with a little more promotion.
I gotta admit...as someone who ran one of these travelling circuses for a few years....the guys like PSBF are as valuable as gold to a franchise. They are the guys that show up by themselves at a road game to cheer for you when they are the only "visiting" fan in the place....they don't mind giving a player a ride to the airport when necessary...they fire up the grill behind the arena after the game for a team bar b que...etc...
But...sorry to say...they are probably the last people you think about when you are hemorraging money and are forced to make a tough decision.
