I didn't know the Indiana Legends were only supposed to play for two seasons, and here I was thinking they folded.....well stupid me. I gleaned this information from this link....

http://www.truemillionairestories.com/offer.html

if you go halfway down you'll run into our hero Joe and the trademark 'Magpie' photo

"He was formerly owner of the Indiana Legends which committed to play only two seasons in the league to help get the league started in 2000."

Then if you go to this link........

You are lead to a series of testimonials and offers of a sales deal. Now one thing I KNOW Joe can do well is sell so this might actually be a great investment. One thing though. And I know Paul Reeths laid down the law about mentioning someone who may/may not be a part of the ABA but looking at the testimonials maybe someone named Connie is raving about Joes' selling techniques in her maiden name....

Sam Hills computer program the "JoeSpeak 5000" will probably be working OT trying to translate this into plain English.

Really I think Joe would have had a conflict of interest if he was still an owner of a team. Other owners may have thought he could use his position to his advantage. Really I could see Joe exploit something like that.

Joe's revisionist history once again.

Halifax was a problem from day one.

An owner is a great person who will have a wonderful franchise until the day they wise up and leave the league.

And as of June of 1999, he (said they) had no plans to put a team in Indy. To help the league get started or for any other reason:

"We've been asked to compete with the Indiana Pacers, and we said, 'No, we live here and we're Indiana Pacer fans'. We're not looking to put a team (in Indianapolis)."
--- New Bedford (MA) Standard-Times, June 25, 1999

The fact is, Joe had a franchise, he hired a moron to be the GM (who lied about his background and experience), didn't pay the players...the Legends are a book all to themselves.

Joe's lying. Plain and simple. He's a liar.

That line (playing only two seasons...) was on his Wikipedia page as well, until it was updated:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Newman

He was formerly owner of the Indiana Legends, which played two seasons in the ABA, losing thousands of dollars before folding. The team also has yet to settle pending lawsuits brought forward by former team members for missing payments.

Joe Newman was not palling to have an ABA team in Indianapolis. the league was set to start with 8 teams, but a planned Florida team was not going to get going. Joe felt he really needed 8 teams so he quickly put together the Indiana Legends.
He did make a poor choice for the GM and that person needlessly spent lots of money that could have been put to much better use.
When the Legends played the second season the plan was to continue.
When Ricardo Richardson took over he worked hard to to stop the financial bleeding and to get the team on solid ground for a third season.
Mismanagement by Joe, and non-payment to people (players and office staff), plus Joe doing things that negated positive things that were being done by staff led to nearly everyone leaving or Joe turning on the rest.

To use the ABA name, Joe had to have 8 teams. This is in the NBA license agreement with Joe. Of course joe moved that agreement between a few corporations he and tingkham set up to shake Jaloza free, which is why there is a judgement out there aganist joe.In the process of Joe having the Indiana team he failed to pay his players to a tune of 800,000 dollars to which there was another judgement out there aganist Joe. What is interesting and there are those out there investigating this, is that Joe had the ABA accept the Judgement and make a deal witht he players attorney to pay it off in a reduced amount. Joe used shareholder money to pay it and not his. he thinks people are stupid and forget this stuff. Sorry Joe, I may not have the scenario 100% right, but you know what Im talking about. SHAMEFUL !

Remeber Joe, I have 147 pages of documented accounts of your little ABA scam with quotes from previous owners, vendors, fans etc. etc

Who would you bring in Joe to refute all these people? Think about it. have a good day Joe.

Joe is just following a business model that has been around for years. Such as:

White Star only intended Titanic to sail 2/3 of the way to America

Dexy's Midnight Runners only intended to write one musical hit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z9bPrUark4)

and so on...
