Joe had it all, 1.8 milllion dollars ( its gone now) and good leaders with connections ( Doyle, Salley, the Doc, etc etc) all gone now also. What does Joe have now? his tongue to convince anyone with a pulse to pluck down 10 K to keep himself in cash. ( also have long term cash flow by stretching out payments)
What did PBL do?
1. Paid 100% of all team travel
2. Paid 100% of ref costs
3. Paid 99% of its games
4. Established a franchise value.
5. Set up internet world wide viewing.
6. Kept teams afloat that needed it.
What did ABA do?
1. Continue to destroy minor league basketball with less than 39% games played with ownership groups that didnt have more than 100 bucks in their checking account.
2. Continue to BS the public
3. Tarnish the ABA letters
4. Have numerous venues and sponsors run when they hear "ABA team"
so Joes solution, attack and make up stories about the PBL and CBA. Costs him nothing, basement has no rent to pay and as you know.....Joe knows the weakness of people, he is a salesman, >>Yes you can own a sports team and make money. Look how many bought into it, 179 teams? Look at the type of people that bought into it, from professionals to laborers. When will it stop ?.

OK, but we know all of this. nothing new here.
but, i still am confused. you are pro-PBL, but yet you hack into their network (or that of their lead official) and post things here.
and, in the process, make the pbl look bad. doesn't add up.

D and A, you are right, this does not add up. I was hoping that a1 wasn't around anymore. Now we will probably get back to the same ol' stuff. Bash Joe, Bash Alex, Say that all teams are rec league, Blah, Blah, Blah.

I actually find a1 entertaining to a point myself, and his goods are solid.
I will admit (and I"m sure that my posts suggest) that I am pro PBL.
But, the a1 rants don't help the PBL in any way, and that's why i have always thought he was an independent entity of some sort as he claims, albeit a connected one.
the PBL has certainly been far more successful than the ABA and a1 has been rubbing that in, perhaps more for his ABA/newman disdain than his PBL or CBA love.
a1 wouldn't have an audience if it weren't for the public mud slinging and other assorted insanities from newman.
FHFan, as much as a1 annoys you, I really believe that you have newman to blame most. your court issues can be worked out so go to the cba or pbl next year. i will pull for you to win a real championship if you do....

I'm willing to cut A1 some slack. He is the "Radio Raheem" of the ABA, walking down the street with the Ghetto Blaster playing "Fight the Power." He is the slave whispering in Joe's ear "thou art mortal." He's the conscience Joe doesn't seem to have.

maybe a1 is one newman's personalities, a manifestion of the tremendous guilt he must feel! Think Sybil or Norman Bates.

I don't have all the backstory on ABA stuff - where is this $1.8 million from? I'd guess the IPO, but would it really generate that much if Newman and Tinkerman kept a controlling share?

179 teams times 10K... 1.79 million over , what 6 - 7 years plus the initial IPO monies? Good work if you can get it, jack

Probably the 180 teams that have gone broke paid 10,000 each to arrive at 1.8 million.
Reading these posts I can't believe people still give Joe anymoney much less 10K

I can guarantee that not all of those 180-odd teams paid $10k to enter the league. I've spoken with team owners/operators who told me they were given second teams or were on installment plans for their market reservation fee. Mr. Newman himself has stated that many team (I believe the vast majority now) come in on payment plans.

Joe (or Mr. Newman as Preeths rather professionally refers to him as) will also accept a quid-pro-quo arrangement where if you have some kind of online ebay type store you will get a team in exchange for an 'market reservation'
Poor Joe. He's fiddling, the ABA is burning and the money is drying up. I think the end is nigh.............
