How many teams will play in 2005? I understand that a few of the teams are in finicial trouble.
Where would a guy go to buy a team franchise and move the team to another location? i know that the league wants $300K but I know that you can buy dormant franchises from other people.

as far as I know, 7 of the 11 teams will be returning. Adirondack & Florence will be relocating to the mid-west somewhere. The two teams that are up in the air are Kansas & St. Louis. The league is also looking to expand to Kearney, Neb.; Long Island, NY; & North Carolina. The league usually doesn't announce anything until February. With the schedule due out in March sometime.

Cedar Rapids will not return to the USBL. Their franchise is up for sale. Barry Smith owns it. Heard he is going to sell to someone in the New Jersey area.

So the USBL doesn't have that many strong franchises. Let's see...
Adirondack - relocating
Brevard - staying
Brooklyn - staying
Cedar Rapids - relocating or folding
Dodge City - staying
Kansas - relocating or folding
Florence - relocating
Oklahoma - staying
Pennsylvania - staying
St. Louis - folding
Westchester - staying
Possible expansion:
Kearney, Neb.; Long Island, NY; & North Carolina.
So it's possible that the USBL mayonly have 8 teams come April. YIKES!

Noticed that Kenny Charles, the Coach/GM of the USBL Brooklyn Kings, is also the Head Coach of the ABA Harlem Revs.
These 2 franchises have 2 things in common; first, on-court, they are both good teams; secondly, off-court, they have the worst attendance in their respective leagues (and that's not easy to pull off in the ABA).
The Kings, however, have been in the USBL for years.
Is using minor league sports teams for tax write-offs a big thing in the Big Apple?
Kansas Cagerz will be back.
I've heard that St. Louis will be back. Oklahoma is back.
There reportedly will be two teams in the NC/SC area to make travel easier for Brevard. If not, Brevard might not return.
My guesstimate is from 8 to 10 teams for 2005.

Well, since Kansas & St. Louis are now reported to be returning, that woiuld bring the league up to 10 teams with Adirondack & Florence relocating. I'd expect the USBL expand with at least 1 more team and depending on what happens with Cedar Rapids, the USBL could now be at 12 teams for 2005. Do you have proof that Kansas & St. Louis will be returning??

A question for Toad 8098:
I ask where are you finding your information on Adirondack Relocating?I spoke to Ed Krinsky (spelling?) from the USBL home office 3 weeks ago and they are still looking to keep the team here in Glensfalls NY "IF" they can find a co-partner with another group willing to put the money up.
I know we have not had really good ticket sales as the time of year really hampers folks staying in as the weather gets better.
The one year I think we led the league in att: when we had Terrell Owens on our team as ALL local tv companies would come and cover the games and possibly some coverage from ESPN.I think on ESPN anyways.
I am a sponsor and also worked in Game time operations.I wanted to know the outcome as I sponsor 3 minor league teams.

It's in this link when OurSportsCentral did an interview with the USBL in November. It clearly states that Florence & Adirondack are being relocated.
