CHRIS MUNSON HIRED AS NEW DIRECTOR OF MEDIA OPERATIONS FOR AMERICAN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
The American Basketball Association is pleased to announce that former ESPN reporter Chris Munson has been hired as the league's new Director of Media Operations. "Chris will be an excellent hire for the ABA," said ABA CEO Joe Newman. "I realize he and I have had our issues in the past, but we had a conversation at the ABA All-Star Game a few weeks ago, and once he understood what I've been trying to do for the past four years - bring exciting fan-friendly and affordable basketball to communities that didn't have it before, to allow people who want to own a team to realize their dreams, and to spread the ABA brand to all four corners of the earth, Chris was more than willing to sign up for the project."
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me," said Munson, who previously worked for the Champlain Media Group in Vermont and has written several blogs. "Joe Newman has given me an opportunity I would have found nowhere else in minor league sports. As part of my duties with the ABA, I will be removing all mean-spirited posts and blogs from the Our Sports Central message boards. The ABA should only promote positive news, and stories about teams folding and players not getting paid need to disappear right now. And all those Utica Wreckers posts are history."
Munson will also spearhead a new ABA expansion wave, with the goal of adding 75 more expansion franchises for the 2008-09 season. Teams will be required to sign non-compete contracts that forbid them from joining any other professional minor league basketball circuit for 20 years, should they choose to leave the ABA. "We're not letting the P-League and the C-League cherry-pick our teams any more," said Newman, "and Chris will make sure that happens."
