Obviously I missed something. What's the deal with Joe and Egg McMuffins?

Egg McMuffins are the only reason to ever go to McDonalds.

It's one of the many inside jokes to go with this all-around joke of a league.

Do a search of this forum and you'll find 43 different threads with the word "McMuffin."

And it all happened with an Egg McMuffin.

Since the guy who invented the McMuffin died, Joe should fold the league out of respect for him.

Nah.

Joe would suggest a "Buy One Get One Free" sale in memory of the guy.

You mean, I could get TWO teams in Asheville for $10K?

And to think I was investing my tax rebate check on PowerBall....

I'm not sure if this is the correct answer, but I think the linked article helps:

http://dreamteamsportsjournal.blogspot.com/2006/07/qa-with-joe-newman-ceo-of-aba.html

This question in particular may provide the answer (bold emphasis is mine):

"DTSJ: If you were commissioner for a day, what would be your first task?

Joe Newman: As Commissioner of the NBA for a day and my first task? I think I would ask all of the owners and the players to meet and discuss how to bring the prices of tickets down so that the NBA could be fan-friendly and affordable. If there is one thing I've heard more than anything else, it is that ticket prices are too high and families cannot attend NBA games. The NBA could well price itself out of business. For example, everyone loves McDonalds and enjoys Big Macs and Egg McMuffins. But if the price of a Big Mac and Egg McMuffin went to $35, you could still like 'em, but you wouldn't buy 'em. It is the responsibility of the NBA, the owners and the players to recognize what has happened and develop a plan to do something about it - before it is too late. Businesses cannot survive that are not profitable. Too many NBA teams are not profitable. You asked me."

Yeah, thanks, this is really fun.

The sad thing is the guy who did invent the McMuffin was a true standup guy. Too bad his McMuffin's reputation gets slandered by the ABA like this.
