This is interesting to say the least as MRR is about to rack up his Championship #1 in the CBA... After the Albany Times Union sets up Michael Ray with "editorial opinion" of his conduct (which even the court throws out) and the team fires Derrick Rowland (Mr. Patroon) as collateral damage  in favor of another former Patroon with zero CBA experience (we all know the results of that experiment  ), who will coach the Patroons next?

Since we all hear so much how league and team officials monitor this site daily, I'd love to hear the answer to the management commitment to putting up the cash for a real team on the floor with a proven coach in 2008-2009 before I plunk down real cash (season ticket ad on website) for what turns out to be chasing a woodchuck down a hole like 2007-2008.

I think that is a very fair question.....This year was a joke in Albany and the Armory and fans were a buzz about the spiral downward on all fronts although I am not sure that anyone who could do anything about it actually heard it or cared if they did frankly.

In either case it needs to be fixed fast or I (we) are going to loose our Patroons twice in a life time and that is something the real fans are not prepared to do again! Sorry but it appears to be the truth, we have been there and done that!

Can someone please tell me I am wrong? PLEASE!

Sorry, "loose" the Patroons = "lose" the Patroons.... (not an english major) :) And please understand that my comments are based on the fact that I love the Patroons and want to see them in Albany as an anchor CBA franchise for a long time! The frustrating part is that we have all been there before and know the signs, it HAS to change!

Didn't MRR talk about the Jews last season. He is an expert on religion or basketball? Maybe both? ;)

Micheal Ray Richardson's not coming back to the Patroons. If he wins the CBA championship this sesaon, it will be the redemption story of minor league basketball.

Albany really needs someone who isn't a former Patroon player (and as much as I loved Derrick Rowland as a player, he's building a base in RGV and needs to get his coaching chops in there).

Honestly - not that I have any pull within the Patroons organization, but my short list of coaches would include -

1. Patrick O'Herron
2. Jaren Jackson (if he can be pried away from the Fort Wayne D-League job)

Or here's a long shot - how much $$$ would it take to pry Paul Woolpert out of Yakama? Just thinking is all...

..it still shows Askew as the coach, and no official announcement has been made, even though we have to assume he's gone.

O'Herron and Jackson would be reasonable choices. O'Herron did a good job with the Patroons USBL team, even with the circus around the league. Jackson has a considerable history with Gary, and is only a D-League assistant. Cliff Levingston is out there too as a possibility.

Is there anybody in the ABA worth moving up? While Askew was a bust (and only coached part of a season there), O'Herron for one was a successful coach in both leagues.

Agree that Michael Ray is not coming back and also with you on the x-Patroon as coach idea (as much as we rate Derrick at the top).... I like your list of Herron and Jackson, how about adding Minot's coach Daleo to the "pry" list?

In the event that Jackson winds up in Albany, that would give me even more reason to root against you(aside from being Conference rivals). After improving our record he left for no given reason, causing me to lose my respect for him. No argument, he is a good coach. But I would say that he has no commitment desires.

PSBF was JJ offered the coaching job at PITT? Did he leave for more money? Unless you know these two answers you cant judge him. If you didnt notice the situation in PITT isnt great. Someone could look around and see the crowds and wonder about the future.

judge whoever I want, kings!! As long as I have reason. You may have forgotten, Jackson was hired by the Xplosion to improve our record, in 06/07, which he did-halfway through the season! But he left without reason(all the Xplosion said was that he left for another league, no reason why).
Don't go jumping on me like you always do, Kings. I only added my imput here because the former X coach was mentioned. That's my opinion of him and nothing anyone says can change that!

a better job than Askew.

Hopefully Askew won't coach in another arena until he gets himself together/help, and the Patroons make the right choice for 2008-09. Go Pats!

Patroon fans don't know ALL that went on behind closed locker room doors in the Armory.

Just like X fans don't know what went on behind closed doors and won't and will never know the real reason why someone left (Coach Jackson, it doesn't have to be announced to the public, psbf).

PBSF not jumping at all.
Was he offered the coaching job?
Did he leave for more stability and or more money?

Can you blame him if either is the case. Do you know how much CBA coaches earn? It is not very much. Have you ever changed jobs in your life?
I have, somethings you do for your family, not for Pitt X fans.
Those are serious, simple question you have to consider.

Your right you can judge anyone, but shouldnt you have an idea of the facts.

Lets hypothetically say The dleague offered him a year round position for 80,000 vs the X offer of a seasonal job for 45,000. What should he have done? Thats all i am asking.

Cliff Levingston had poor chemistry with the players in Gary. He blamed players by name in the press. Not a good sign. Jaren Jackson wants to further his coaching career. A return to the CBA would be a step in the wrong direction of major proportions.

As I said, kings, no reason was given as to why he left. If he had, I may have had more understanding. But I still feel that he should have continued what he started. But since we now have Knox, Jackson is forgotten.

Most coaches in these leagues are there to develop. J. Jackson is doing the same thing. The D-League is the next best thing to the league. This is where the NBA is looking. Dave J. is in the league, but it's not the CBA of old. J. Jackson is great, but he is looking to move up. You can't blame him for developing. That is why he left.

I know of a coach that loves Albany. He was an assistant with the old Hoops and the Mayhem. He has been in the IBL the last couple of years, and has done well there. He wants to get back to the CBA. He knows the league, he knows the players, they love playing for him, and he loves the Albany fans. He is a great PR guys as well. I enjoyed watching him interact with everybody. I am talking about Coach Sare. As I said before, I over heard him talking, and I heard him say what an honor it would be to coach in Albany.

Reggie Fox would be another name to consider. When he had the money to sign players in Michigan, he did a nice job. Derrick Martin ect...

Just a couple more names to throw out there.

Dale Osbourn is another great coach. He was with Gary and is with the D-League team out in Utah at this time. He was very successful in the USBL.
