Is grammar even taught in schools these days? The next team worthy of their own thread is the Nasville Broncs (the fact that they couldn't afford the last 'o' for their team may be a bad omen)...

To their new website (http://www.nashvillebroncs.com/):
-they have someone in charge of Merketing & Sponsorship
-their contact page tells says "For general inquiries please you the contact form below"
-according to their home page (typed as posted) "The American Basketball League is returning to Nashville with fast, friendly and affordable basketball. Season Begins in November Reserve Your seats early"
-on their links page "The Nashville Broncs has put together many useful links that we feel you may find helpful and entertaining..." The links? Three for bidflame.com (close to Joe's heart)...

THE NASHVILLE BRONCS ARE MOVING FORWARD

21-Mar-2008
Nashville, TN -- The Nashville Broncs have just finished setting up new offices and the search to complete the team off court is underway. The new Nashville Broncs offices are located in the heart of downtown Nashville at 315 Union Street, Suite 1230.

On Friday, March 14th, a press conference was held at Trevecca Nazarene University announcing the Nashville Broncs and the return of the ABA to Nashville (at least they have the right league name here). The local news and media were present to cover the breaking news.

"We greatly appreciate the coverage of this event along with the support from fans and local business that are joining in an effort to better our organization," stated team owner Scott Lumley. "Also, we would like to think the other ABA team owners and coaches who have contacted us with suggestions and offered us support (I'd like to think that the Gwizzlies sent them their media handbook). As with any new business, mistakes are often made; the knowledge the other ABA teams have shared with us definitely helped to counter some mistakes we could have made." (frankly, way too easy to comment upon...)

Several tryout camps have been scheduled. Please keep your eye on the Nashville Broncs web site for complete information. The Head Coach has been named and will be announced shortly (or, you can go tho their website and see his name already listed - Oliver Lee) .

Hope people will check out our web site - and if you're a possible player, please click on the tryout page for the scheduled tryout camps." (Actual players need not apply...)

Pretty busy day for the Broncs. As for this quote:
The local news and media were present to cover the breaking news.
a search of Google News for "Nashville Broncs" "ABA" reveals 6 items - all team releases on OSC. Strong media coverage out of the gate...

Fish University? I know that travel in schools, but that's a first.

I've heard of Fisk University in Nashville, TN, but I guess they're holding tryouts underwater.

As for the website, it looks like someone tried to translate a Japanese video game or Chinese electronics manual to English.

Well spotted ABARWB. That guy Alex from TSN hit the nail on the head. He called some colleagues who said they just use this as comic relief. Nobody but us on OSC and the 'mark' who invested in this ridiculous league cares. Nobody reads the press releases Joe churns out, except for us, and we simply double over and roar with laughter.

In fact, this league has become a caricature of itself. It excists only for the humour of the 20 odd guys on this board and the ego stroking of the latest member in Joes' "idiot-investor-of-the-week" club.

Thats it. The OSC board and a way for some moron to claim he owns a pro team.

In fact Joe really should mold the business to this end. Go in with Paul Reeths and charge us money to come on and mock Joe online all the while doing the professional sports version of a degree mill and present these suckers with a "you own a team" piece of paper.

Cue Homie the Clown:

Homie: Tommy, you know what dignity is?
Tommy: No, Homie.
Homie: See that ABA franchise owner. (points to typical ABA owner)
Tommy: Yeah, Homie.
Homie: Well, dignity is the opposite of that.

Nashville and Georgia's PR departments should become comedy writers. They could make a lot more money writing monologues for Leno and Letterman. :infun:

Very true - unfortunately, I am one of the "odd" guys on this board. What do real people do with their lives?

Fish University would be more appropriate, given how the ABA smells.

Seriously, if you're considering joining the crappie ABA, I think you should mullet over a while longer. I swear to Cod, you'll mako a big mistake if you get involved with Joe Newman. He's always looking for a manta give him $10,000 for a team (women, too), and eel give you nothing in return. Promises of great profits are just a red herring. He'll put out a press release about how great an owner you are, then when you wise up and pull out of the league, you'll hear the league office singing a different tuna.

Holy mackerel, even from my perch far away, I can see that most ABA franchises just flounder if they don't fold entirely. Even owners with money and vision have a roughy time of it because the other teams are run by some of the worst operators ever to come down the pike.

Seriously, I've haddock with this guy, and I'm done being koi about my feelings. No matter how many people he dupes, he continues to skate by. It's like his sole purpose is to cheat people out of money.

I know we carp about it a lot here on OSC and it doesn't seem to do any good, but hopefully Newman will tuck his yellowtail between his legs and slink out of the room.

That's it. I'm trout.

Whale of a post, Sam. Worth its weight in goldfish. If Joe doesn't like it, tell him to kiss your bass......

I didn't mean 20 odd as in "20 strange guys"

I meant 20-odd as in a saying refering to a general number, like anywhere from 18-25 guys. Are there any ladies that post on here regularly by the way?

Of course Joe 'ultimate sales university' Newman will beg to differ.
