Here is what I have gathered as far as teams returning/being added for the 2008-2009 season:

ALBANY - Will be back
SOURCE: Season ticket packages on sale. 2008-2009 Season Ticket Packages - 18 Home Games. For more information, call the Armory Box Officeat 518-694-7160 ext 26 (Patroons website)

ATLANTA - Not sure
SOURCE: No mention of season ticket sales for next year. Little to no local coverage makes it hard to know what is happening in the front office.

BUTTE - To be determined
The CBA contest had one of its better crowds for a Sunday game. “We’re excited about the fans,” Daredevils executive Joe Clark said after the game. “The support has been excellent. Season ticket holders already want more tickets.” Even with a solid group of fans, Clark said that the organization needs to somehow bring in more people in order to support the team. “We just need more attendance,” he said. The team’s future in Butte will be decided in the next two months. Clark said that the Daredevils plan to square things away in the next 60 days.

EAST KENTUCKY - Will be back
SOURCE: Need a solid affirmation, but all indications are the first season went well

GREAT FALLS - Up in the air
In the news release announcing the suspension of operations,
(Michael) Tuckman praised the fans and the community and said he wanted to reach out to them. "My top priority is to reconnect with the Great Falls community," he wrote. "This is a good market for the CBA, a tight-knit community with very knowledgeable basketball fans. It has been my pleasure to get to know several members of the community and call them close friends. I think I was perceived as an outsider and because I got started so late in the year — I bought the team the day before the season started — it was an uphill battle."
One could infer the team is still in existence, at least on paper. Look for a decision in the next 60-90 days.

MINOT - Will be back
SOURCE: They have signed a lease for the upcoming season.
Chris Lindbo, President of the Minot CBA Investment Group, LLC, signed the new 24-game lease with the Minot Municipal Auditorium. "Not only have we signed on for the 2008-09 season, but we are also on the list to host the 2009-10 All-Star Game. We plan on being in Minot for years to come and look forward to continuing our relationship with the Auditorium. Scott Collins has worked with us in every aspect during this transition period, and we are very excited to be playing here." The new arena lease involves 24 more home games for the Skyrockets to play at the Minot Municipal Auditorium, starting in November 2008. "Having the Skyrockets here is great. It keeps the building and the staff busy and is great income for the city. It is also great entertainment for the community and a great draw for the city, so we are excited both personally and professionally to have the new ownership renew the lease," said Scott Collins, Auditorium/Recreation Manager.

OKLAHOMA - Will be back
SOURCE: From their website: Oklahoma Cavalry season tickets for the 2008-2009 season are now on sale! For more information, contact the Oklahoma Cavalry ticket office at 580-353-CAVS (2287).

PITTSBURGH - Will be back
SOURCE: Still listed as the host of the 2009 All-Star game

RIO GRANDE VALLEY - Will be back
SOURCE: Their website lists four season ticket packages for the upcoming season, with an additional incentive for priority seating for the 2009-2010 season
YAKAMA, Wash. - The Rio Grande Valley Silverados lost 126-96 to the Yakama Sun Kings to conclude their inaugural season. "It was what it was," Silverados coach Derrick Rowland said. "We didn't play great and we still won two quarter points. It was a good game until the fourth quarter." Jason Forte led the Silverados with 23 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Gordon Klaiber contributed 21 points, and Trent Eager added 19 points and seven rebounds. "We are coming back tomorrow, and getting back to work first thing Tuesday morning for next season," Rowland said.

YAKAMA - Likely
YAKIMA -- Looking forward, changes are in store for the Sun Kings -- if they return, which Coach Paul Woolpert expects. "As far as I know, the Yakama Nation has a minimum one more year of commitment," Woolpert said, alluding to the tribe's three-year promise to operate the team, which came after the 2005-06 season, their first as owners. Ralph Sampson Jr., a member of the Tribal Council, did not return a phone message seeking comment about the tribe's plans for the team. Within the organization, one change is assured -- Woolpert, if he returns, will not carry the dual titles of head coach and general manager.

EXPANSION/INACTIVE TEAMS
In a January 35th interview with KXMC-TV (Minot), CBA President Ricardo Richardson had the following quote: Very excited about the league and it's prospects. Again the league is the oldest professional league in the world, established in 1946. We've done a lot of good things traditionally but as of the last 3 or 4 years we're focusing on marketing and branding outside of the lines. Outside the lines, I mean off the Basketball floor. So what we do in the community throughout the CBA cities is very important and integral for the success of the teams in those areas but also the success of the CBA long term. Richardson says the league has an aggressive growth plan for the next 2 to 5 years that includes international play. We're expanding, we're working with two to four groups for next season, qualifying them in the United States, we're working with two or three Mexico teams to be in the Mexico league for next year. We'd like to cap it over the next five to six years at 30 teams. We won't get a lot of that in the United States but outside of the U.S. maybe 10 teams in Mexico, 10 in Canada as well as 10 in the Caribbean.

Any other information/sources would be appreciated.

It's pretty safe to say Great Falls will not return. And just because Pittsburgh is hosting the all-star game does not mean they will return (sorry psbf). I'm willing to bet that Butte doesn't come back either.

I believe there is genuine interest from the Rapid City SD and Rochester MN areas for expansion teams.

I don't trust the interview...There's no such date as January 35th! There's no 35th of ANY month!

At another job, we once got a contract from New York State stamped March 32nd in order to "beat" the end of the fiscal year.....

...I wonder what Ken will say about the CBA without Apex....

I think the ABA Northeast will settle in the CBA (yet another reason why Joe Newman doesn't even want the name in an article on his web site), so Manchester, Halifax, Quebec and perhaps Montreal. I don't know about Vermont, though it obviously would be nice to have them too. Manchester mentioned the CBA in both articles in the paper, so i

Elsewhere, barring any potential merger with the PBL, we'll see. I think Vancouver (and any other Tuckman team) is as dead as Great Falls, and Reno is getting a D-League team.

There was talk about Bend, OR last season. I wonder if that is dead.

Bend was a Tuckman proposal IIRC.

I HAVE seen teams sell season tickets before, only to take the bullet anyway. Would it be a surprise that, at least in a couple instances, ST deposits weren't refunded? Can you imagine?

I do hope things turn out for the best.

Not sure about those instances you're speaking of but EK is doing it as legit as it can be done. All deposits are being paid to the Arena (which obviously isn't going anywhere) and set aside in an account not to be touched. The only reason why it's deposits and not actually selling of season tickets is due to logistical issues (ie. floor seating/suite arrangements and physical placement of the court - changing the layout, bringing more upper level seating into play which will move where halfcourt was situated).

I saw an article, in your paper, recently where Kentucky is trying to make state facility's like the Expo Center a commodiity(if that's the right word), where residents won't need to worry about paying taxes on it, but it would be government's responsibility.

I hate to be a killjoy, but Pounder's right.

Selling season tickets in March is hardly an indicator that the team is going to be around in December.

It's an indicator that right now, they intend to be back. Doesn't mean they "will be back."

There is absolutely no indicator that will tell you positively that a team won't fold shortly before the start of the season or during the season. None.

I think it's safe to say that every single team in all of these leagues should be listed as "day to day."

Frontoffice,

I know Boo is having a camp March 29th. Do you know who else will be there or any other camps that the miners might be having?

Go Miners!!!

Ken would say that the CBA has been infiltrated by the ABA beyond Apex (SOMEONE let Apex in). Ricardo Richardson is still involved with the CBA--enough said.

Go Miners!!!

As of now, there are plans for 3 camps this summer. The first one scheduled for the 2nd week of June in Inez, KY. They are going to be 3 days in length.

Boo Jackson is having a camp on his own, not related to the Miners, as he is no longer under contract. His is a one day event at the end of this month (March 29th, I believe).

Can't help myself.
