For the of benefit the western playoff winner, I did some research this weekend regarding the cost of flying from Los Angeles to Quebec City. I used the following parameters on the website of a reputable travel company (Expedia.com)

From: Los Angeles (All airports)
To: Quebec City (and vicinity)

Departing 3/25/08 (would require a red-eye flight)
Returning 3/31/08

Need 3 rooms with two adults in each. We will need to double this for a total of 12 people, plus an additonal room for the owner (at minimum).

The cheapest package was a Continental flight leaving LAX at 11:15 PM and arriving in Quebec City at 11:48 AM the next morning. The flight back leaves on the 31st at 2:50 PM and arrives at 8:53 PM. The hotel is Le Voyageur Hotel, a two-star located 5 km from Old Quebec.

Total price: $4,605. For twelve, $9,210. Add transportation to the hotel and the arena plus food, and we're almost at (if not over) $10,000. Add the cost for the owner, it is goes over $10,000 for certain.

Gee, what can I buy in the ABA for that amount of money?

OK, in all honesty, how many of you think the western playoff winner will show up just to be cannon fodder for the Vermont Frost Heaves or Manchester Millrats? Please feel free to post odds on this occuring. :infun:

-Turn sarcasm filter on- Don't worry. Joe will pay the western representative back if they pay it out of their own pocket. -Turn sarcasm filter off-

The Kebekwa are picking up airline and hotel costs for everyone, I believe, so that makes it quite a bit easier for everyone. Teams still have to pay per diem, their players, transportation to and from the airport and other incidentals, but they should be able to make it happen.

Thanks for the followup. That proves the Kebekwa are a top class organization in my book. Sadly, that's not true for many teams in the league.

From what I've heard, the Quebec organization has worked very hard on the Great Eight, just as Vermont and Manchester have on the All-Star weekend. All three organizations have gone well beyond the call of duty.

All 3 are quality organizations, and deserve better than the ABA, hopefully they'll all leave soon!
