Well turns out Atlanta made it to Halifax on friday, but they ended up losing the bag containing their uniforms as they got their connecting flight in NYC today...after the game I made it a point to go down to courtside and shake hands with the Atlanta coach and to say thanks for his guys going out of their way on short notice for us in Halifax...very nice to talk to.

So what did Atlanta end up wearing? Team Canada T-shirts...the funny part is that their numbers on their backs were made up of pieces of masking tape, yes masking tape...which of course gradually peeled off as the game went on. Hilarious! The coach did tell me that the airline recovered the bag and it should be arriving at the airport tomorrow morning...so tomorrow night they should have their uniforms.

Anyway here are the photos...almost 100 of em!

Thanks for the pictures! I understand there was a very good crowd in Halifax.

Carter, you seem like a straight up guy. If having a team in the same market as an NBA team is otherwise working for you, I invite you (with no authority whatever) to look into changing leagues next year to the PBL. You seem to be the kind of owner that minor league basketball needs and the PBL if nothing else has shown it is dedicated to getting its games played.

Stop with that unethical recruiting of ABA teams right now before Joe goes over there and throws a tantrum.

Despite Joe's assertion to the contrary, I am not on the payroll of the PBL.

Wow, that is kind of funny actually.

I spoke with Nancy Sheppard, the Rainmen's PR Director and I am beyond impressed with her work and that of the organization. They are doing a fantastic job, have tons of sponsors, a great arena, great fans and are a great organization. Nancy has so much enthusiasm for the team and her work and it has to be contagious. You have a great team and a solid organization up there.

How's it "hilarious" ? I don't find it funny.

It's not Atlanta's fault that their uniforms went missing.

I took pictures last night and I'll post them soon. My dad is from Atlanta and it was nice to see a team from there playing in Halifax.

Hey you should be happy Atlanta went out of there way to get up there (eventhough what they are wearing looks real rec-league) hopefully they'll get their jerseys for tonights game

Atlanta is a real franchise that does things right, they just had a mix up with jerseys, which was out of their control, much credit given to the Vision this season!

Nancy Sheppard is very well regarded in Halifax. She is always seems to be right on top of things, from what I have seen. Since she was hired the Rainmen really started to get things right.

I didn't mean that as disrespectful, in fact I was really impressed to see Atlanta play even without their gear. But seeing those numbers peeling off...hilarious. Get a sense of humour.

Of course I'm happy they came, would I have gone down to shake hands with their coach if I wasn't? And of course I realize the lost bag was out of their control...I'm not an idiot.

All kidding aside, let's hope the Atlanta players all have something to go home to after last night's and today's extreme weather.

I'm laughing very hard at the posts on this thread. You guys are great fans which is why I enjoy posting on OSC and reading all the boards.

Our Jerseys have made it to Halifax. While we will look good, we need to start playing good. Our road record is nothing to be proud of. The playoffs are right around the corner and we need to improve. I have great faith in our guys and I expect them to dig deep, step up, and take a W.

Halfax is a great story in our league. When I first heard in April that a team from Nova Scotia was being started, I had my doubts. I have no doubts any longer. They have done a tremendous job. Vermont, Manchester, and Halifax have set the standard. In Atlanta, we are greatly improved from last year....but we still have more work to do.

BTW...Lots of damage in downtown Atlanta. The weather has been crazy all day today with a fatality in North Georgia with lots of hail and tornados. We look for it to pass shortly.

Does anybody know if the Halifax games are on the Internet? Either video or radio? I did not see anything on their website.

You guys have a solid team, and seem to be well coached. However, your team seem to have tons of trouble handling our post players down low. Puckett was playing center for you guys and while he is a good scorer, he is not a center. The team seemed to run out of gas in the fourth, which may be because you haven't played many games this year, or the long flight tired your guys out.

There is big snow storm going on in Halifax right now, so that will hurt tonight's turnout. There must have been close to 3,000 for last night’s game.

Unfortunately, no. They are said to be working on that for next year.

Those are good pictures that I saw of the game, good crowd! I, for one, am not surprised that the Rainmen are doing so well, considering the turnout of the All-Star game that one year. But I do agree with those who say that Halifax needs to switch to a better league, though. Hopefully before next season. How many at the game, say 1,500?

131-126 Atlanta(team canada ;)) wins tonight

1143 in the boxscore for attendence for tonight's game, does anyone know the official attendence from yesterday? From the pics it looked to be a good crowd!!

I was told that the crowd was right around 3000 on Friday night. Apparently the weather was pretty rough tonight and since today's game was a postponement from the originally scheduled Thursday/Friday games, I guess 1143 is a great number. I know that we would be doing cartwheels in Atlanta with 1143. Halifax is doing a great job.

I would have guessed probably close to 3000 too, good crowd on Friday, and for the next day, considering the weather, 1143 is decent, hopefully Halifax leaves this hell hole league real soon!!

Carter, how has the attendence been in Atlanta, I think you told us the numbers for a game or two early on in your season and they were like 100-200, so how have they been recently?

The man who coached your team on friday and saturday (i understand he is not usually the coach) was amazing. WE were talking with him and heckling him all night we had a great time he is a great guy and handled our heckling better than alot of other coaches. I am very glad they came and comend them on that as well as I thought it was funny the jersey thing even though it was the airline's fault. You guys have a solid team and a good bunch of guys but we still have a guy who dresses better than your coach/executive. Ha ha ha ha ha.

That man is our majority owner, Quentin Townsend. He is a class act and I'm sure he took the heckling well.

Our regular coach, Bruce Kruetzer, was unable to make the trip on such short notice. He'll be in Vermont though on Tuesday night.

TBayz...I am still waiting on the Arena to give us final numbers for our last two games. Because our current setup does not use the "hand scanners", our statistics are very slow. Quentin may already have them but I have not seen them yet. We were averaging right around 400/game. We will implement the scanners next season so TicketMaster can print tickets for fans in real time.

Mr. Patterson-

Please consider moving your organization to a more stable league.
You have done an admiral job having the Vision fill in for other teams, and have assisted Halifax mightily in this instance.

Now it is time to go to a league that you will not have to do that in, and to take other well run teams with you.

There are several leagues to choose from, I'm sure you can find one which will be to your liking.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.

Your pal,
Skippy

400 really isn't that terrible in minor league ball. You would fit in fine in the PBL or some of the other smaller circuits. I think if you ran the team in the exact same way, just in another market, you could at least double your numbers.

400 is a start, if Atlanta keeps doing things right people will notice!

They are too good for this league, and should pursue another option if they can

Mr. Patterson,

I was impressed with Mr. Townsend's demeanor and the fact that your team made it up to Halifax on such short notice, even before your jerseys!

Funny story: after one of our fans - the best-dressed one that dunc referred to - was finished dancing on the court to a James Brown song during a timeout (a regular occurrence at our games), Mr. Townsend was "this close" to going out and showing us his dance moves too. Maybe after a couple of adult beverages, he could have been convinced!

Let me join the chorus of Haligonians (people from Halifax) in suggesting that you get out of the ABA. I am sure you and your team would benefit. I wouldn't mind seeing your team play ours again next year.

I met both Carter and Quinton at the Heaves/Atlanta game tonight and man I was impressed. Carter knows his stuff, is a GREAT guy, has great ideas, and has a ton of knowledge.

Quinton is just hysterical and kind of a James Brown lookalike. He is a great guy who was the assistant coach tonight and he looked like he was having the time of his life. He has this HUGE laugh and even through the abysmal officiating was still smiling and laughing. What a great guy.

Carter/Quinton, it was a pleasure meeting you both. I hope to see you down the line sometime.

I believe I also met Quentin, although it was after the game. He got quite a laugh out of the jersey I was wearing (Utica rules!)...

Carter, you and your team are a class act. I hope I can get to Quebec City for the Great 8 to see you guys play again and I plan on wearing the jersey too!

I'm back in the ATL after a very nice trip to Barre.

I got a very good picture of myself along with Mr. Formerlyknownasfells and The Sweeper. The Sweeper, as promised, wore his Utica Wreckers jersey.

The fans in Barre are very special. I was happy to sit in the stands and listen to them cheer. I brought home a "Bump" doll for my daughter and a CowBell for my souvenir collection.

I wish I could have stayed for the Allstar game, but I look forward to watching it on PlayOn.

Thank you Vermont for being such great hosts. I'm going to stay off the boards until after the playoffs.
