View Full Version : Oklahoma at Yakama
The webcast is on, but problems with both the Audio and Video. Great crowd, but not quite a sell-out.

Webcast was working for me up til a few minutes ago. Now I can't even get it to buffer.
Got the radio on listening to Chris on Magic 95.
He is using a Satalite phone. He has 4 phones as backups...LOL

47-46 Oklahoma lead at the half
Another great game on hand between these teams!!
I'm using the stat page for the score. I go back and check the webcast which starts out good, but then buffers after a short time.

What a dog fight.
Only 9 FT attempted for the first half.
Refs are letting this game become a playground game, fouls don't count.
Now with that said, Tuesday's game was just as bad. 86 trips to the foul line in that game. The Refs wouldn't let them play.
I don't know which is worse?
How many people can fit in that gym? Looks like a pretty good crowd!

Webcast working wonderfully for me now after some problems in the 1st quarter. Oklahoma is looking likely to win this thing. Crowd is probably 1,200-1,500.

Wow. Big scuffle on the court. Michael Ray just went totally insane. Brandon Dean and Harvey Thomas ejected, as well as Michael Ray. Both Woolpert and Richardson received technicals.

Cavs radio announcer said in the 2nd quarter that if the Refs didn't get control of the game there would be a fight. He was so right.
81-69 Cavs after 3. I would guess over 2,000 there.

Just over 8 minutes left in the game...
This one is not over yet.
The SunKings can shoot from just about anywhere on the floor.
Cavs need to play tough defense and hit all their shots
They might need to get some medical staff over to where the CAVS announcer is... He might have a heartAttack if the CAVS win!
With the season that the Sun Kings have had, an ending like this does not surprise me(if happens).

Now the CAVS get a week off while the X and Skyrockets play.
Don't know if this is good or bad.
I do know that this is a completely different CAVS team that played either team back in December.
LOOK OUT !! HERE COME THE CAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why not? I thought one would expect a team to go far in the playoffs if they had had an excellant season?

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but why weren't the Sun Kings playing in the SunDome? Maybe there was a thread about it but I just didn't bother to check. Congrats to Shawn Daniels and the Cavs. Of course I'm a fan of his with him being a former Dakota Wizard. But now I gotta root for Kevin Rice and the Skyrockets!!!
Well, history has shown that successfull teams are not always so in the playoffs. Some tend to run out of gas and run into better teams. Such was the case here. My congrats to the Cavs! You have improved much!

Congrats to the Cavs, the better team won (as I predicted). But your coach is a serious whack job. I was sitting right behind the scorers table and heard it all. I am totally convinced he has no control over his emotions. It's actually quite sad , as he maybe is a good coach. He pushed his players and the asst coach. He went after Woolpert and i really thought he was going to hit him. And they have always seemed to have a good working relationship. It was your run of the mill hard foul that led to a scuffle(horrendous refereeing on both ends led to this). The ref's couldnt get control of the fight, and the main reason was MRR wouldnt stop going after people. Refs, coaches players, cheeleaders, seeing eye dogs, anyone, and he had no real reason to do this. And Brandon Dean wouldnt either, he was ejected but kept going after Harvey Thomas. The police showed up which was kind of cool. Curtis Haywood has no class. One of the Cav's fans told me of Adam (ecoli)Spinach 3pt prowess in warmups. It's insane, he makes about 90% and he shoots about 50 times. Class guys you should be proud of Green and Selvy.

Good series, and I think a good rivalry has started between the 2 teams, can't wait until next year to see them play again! (hopefully the webcast will be a bit better)
Even with 2 players and a coach gone, the Cavs managed to pull off, they are a very good team, and will be a tough challenge for whoever has to play them in the finals!
And congrats to Yakima, eventhough they lost, they had a good season with a impressive record, and large crowds! This is a real franchise!!

I was there, too. Richardson is an absolute disgrace to the coaching profession and the CBA. He verbally abuses his players, opposing staff, building staff and bus drivers. He is totally out of control and does not belong in the league. This guy is unstable and it does not have anything to do with his well-documented drug problems. Richardson is just a bad guy!

Richardson is a bad guy? Have you ever talked to him? His emotions get the best of him sometimes. His is very passionate about the game. He obviously knows how to put a great team together and his players stick with him. All I know is that if he were still coaching the Patroons we would be in the playoffs this year. This guy has taken his team to the playoffs every year he has been in the leauge. His behavior is unacceptable sometimes but he is a great coach!

..both came out. My question is this. MR has never coached a CBA finals game, having been suspended for the series last year.
In what game of this series will MR finally coach in the CBA finals? I am guessing there will be a suspension in order for the things that went on last night.

Richardson coached the first game of last years finals against Yakima. He was then suspended for the rest of the series, and eventually terminated.

I think it would be a complete contradiction for the league to suspend MRR for the finals when Coach Wolpert got off scott-free after shoving a CBA official and a Pike County Sheriff when he was ejected from a Sunkings/Miners game earlier this year. There really needs to be some sort of conformity in these situations. Write a rule-book and actually stick to it.

Well, it doesn't help that the Refs don't follow the rules either.
THose two that were doing the game last night are notorious for calling bad games. They have done several of the CAVS games here in Lawton and it is amazing how they call a game. One minute a guy gets called for a foul and the next time he does the exact same thing, he doesn't get called for it.
Notice how before the fight, there were hardly any fouls called. Then after the fight, they were calling them left and right.
If the CBA wants to become a better league, then it has to start at the REFS that call the games.
MRR should have controled his emotions abit better, but I think it got the rest of the team fired up.
I see a one game suspension coming for him

My take on the whole situation is that the officiating in Game 1 was exactly how a playoff Game should be called, and the way it was called in Game 2 was bound to end up like it did with punches thrown and ejections..
Translation is that when you have two teams that donot like each other and more importantly are involved in a playoff game you need to be able to keep control of the game...Calling the game tight as they did sends a message that the officials were not going to take any BS that was brought into the game...thus you did have more free throws shot but no issues as far as fights and such...If they ,the players donot want to back off the officials need to keep blowing their whistles or stuff is going to happen cause the players cannot police themselves..
In game 2 as soon as the players knew that the officials were letting it go loose and not getting a handle on things bad things were bound to happend, and as we all saw it did....
Calls are going to missed in everygame whether it be NBA or CBA,But Game management is the most important thing...If you cannot manage the game(players and coaches) then you will have issues...
Just my take....

He has put together good teams his 2nd and 3rd years in the CBA. But that does not make him a good guy. I have talked with MRR several times since he has been in the CBA and, on a couple occasions, he has been civil. But most of the time he is complaining or calling people names. I have absolute no respect for the guy. I have seen him berate players, coaches, fans, officials and opposing staff members. I have seen him try to fight. If he acted like this two years ago, he would have been suspended for a very long time. I appreciate your passion for the Patroons, but do not defend a person's terrible behavior because he can coach.

No one seems to mention Harvey Thomas. It sounds like he was the one who threw punches. How often does this guy get tossed out of games?
He was tossed during his first trip to Lawton for throwing a ball at the scoreboard that hangs above the floor.
He SHOULD have been tossed in the first playoff game, but I don't think the refs saw him kick the ball down the court, so they just gave a delay of game warning instead of a technical. Later he was throwing another fit and a technical was called, but I guess it wasn't on him, because later he did get called for a T and wasn't ejected.
MRR is no saint, but he's also not the first coach to get angry when he sees a punch thrown toward his team.
sometime last season. No matter how much talent a coach has, if he lets his attitude get the best of him, he should not be coaching no matter how good he is. M.R. coaching just reminds me of why he was let go by the Knicks, as a player.

Kev no one is saying Harvey Thomas didnt do wrong. He was thrown out, done. But a coach has to try to protect his players by getting them off the court before people become injured or suspended. Have you ever seen a NBA coach trying to escalate a fight or do you see them grab their players and push them back to the bench.

Our local paper has a good picture of MRR pulling back on one of his players during the scuffle.
He got ejected because he was giving the REFS a piece of his mind and they
T'd him up for it.
Like I said earlier, Fouls were not being called before fight - but were called left and right after everyone got ejected.
THe Refs finally got the brains to start calling them before another fight broke out.
Coaches and players can only play the game. Yes they should be more professional about how the game is played, but it is the REFS that control the flow of the game. It was clear to everyone but the REFS that the situation was getting out of control, until the fight.

OK , see the light thru the trees . MRR was kicked out of the games when he challenged Woolpert to fight 10 ft in front of me. Enjoy your team and their good players , but your coach is troubled. He will never get a real coaching job in his life.
This post had a little PBSF flavor, "at the Game" deal working
And you are 100% right , the refs were horrible( the english language doesnt have the proper word for it).
I beleive the league mandated it after the foul calling fest in Lawton. I saw("at the game" again) obvious fouls at both ends, and I would look at the official , and they were looking at the same thing and just swallowing their whistle.
What do you mean 'psbf flavor'?

I like reading reports from those who were at the game. All I could do was listen to the radio that night. I was at work and couldn't get the webcast. From what I heard on the radio, it sounded like MRR got a Technical sometime early when the fight broke out, then toward the end of the ordeal he an Woolpert were at mid-court screaming at each other and they both received technicals for that.
It was pretty funny to listen to it, as those who have heard the Cavs announcer before know- he gets pretty animated. He was really screaming during the fight, especially since he had predicted it early in the game.

MRR was doing all the yelling. Your radio announcer had to do the game via cell phone, as there was only one phone line. He had like 6 phones in front of him. It was funny to see. Is your owner the Blond guy? Whats his story? What type of business is he in? Is he a Lawton local? Nice to see an ownere(if thats the case involved and care about his team. The CBA never has that, it's always just poor sob's wanting the season to end so they can stop losing money.

The blonde guy was one of the owners of the CAVS - I think it was John Zelbst. He is a lawyer. He had his wife and son there at the game.
Not sure if any of the other owners were there or not.
The other owners are:
Phil Kennedy - Owner of Commanche Home Center - (Home Depot like place)
Hossein Moini - Owner of Adventure Travel (Cruise line and other travel ticket agency) and owner of Charley's Grilled Subs. Part owner in Pin High Investments.
This guy is everywhere in Lawton from the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce to being a School Board member.
Mike Brown - Owner of CBDL (Commerical Construction Contractor) as well as other business.
All of these guys come to all home games and welcome the fans at the door as they enter and stay after games to shake hands with the fans.
Great group of guys to own the CAVS.

Zelbst was a fan from the very beginning. He had what we call the Jack Nicholson seat at the Great Plains Coliseum. He sits front row, closest to the radio announcer. He has had that seat since the first game, so he was a fan first. I guess that's why he was ready to jump in and take over when the problems arose.
I have had brief conversations with all 4 of the owners and they all seem to be very nice guys who just want to offer their hometown an entertaining event. I get the impression that if the Cavs can just break even financially, these guys would be happy.

No doubt, our ownership group is first rate all the way....having mascoted in the NBA and other minor leagues for the last few years i would definetley have to say they are doing things not just the right way, but surpassing what they need to do as owners. Dedicated, approachable and passionate about our team. Unbeatable in my book. Go Cavs!

Yeah, the owners just want to finish this season with the best possible record possible.
They want to break even next year and start making a profit the year after.
He said they realize it will be hard to do all of that in the current facility they are in because of the rent per night they have to pay plus other cost each night.
Good news though, Lawton is in the process of cleaning up a downtown area that has been in need of a real good makeover and one of the things they are going to do is build an arena for sports, concerts and other events.
Nothing like seeing an owner taking your ticket at the front door, not dressed in a suit, but in Jeans and a Cavs blue T-Shirt. Shaking hands with everyone.
