View Full Version : Obvious Reason For The Playoff

There are only 5 teams worthy of going to the playoffs, so they had to do the best they could do. Clearly OK,YAK,MINOT are in. The fact that Pitt had so many games against undermanned opponents, stop PBSF it's certainaly not the X's fault. But it's also not EK's fault either . The fact that they finished so close together the playoff spot would have been decided by forfiets Etc. Thats not fair either. WTF are you guys talkin about keeping the original playoff format (four from each conference) GF,BUtte, and Albany would be in the playoffs how? No coaches ,folded teams , 6 players. how?
Dont start PBSF, I will go game by game and point out the disadvantaged teams Pitt played. Lets all enjoy the fact that there are 5 solid teams left and good games are on the horizon. Last year Yak was very good and Albany was decent, thats it, the rest of the league was weak.

It's getting ridiculous that everyone has to qualify each statement they make to one person, who inevitably takes it the wrong way anyway. I don't think the problem is us.
Back to the topic...
I would never argue that 4 teams would have been a wise format but it was the format given to all the team at the beginning of the season. There are alot of things that go into team building and if an organization is counting on peaking at the right time, knowing they just have to work thru the kinks and stay in 4th it will definitely affect decision making throughout. Now if they said from the start, 'there might be a good chance we limit the teams in the playoffs', people might make moves early. Maybe disregard chemistry for W's. Lot of "ifs" could/would happen.
This has been two years in a row now that the entire playoff structure has been reduced in the last weeks of the season. Everyone should go into next year with the mindset that only the top 2 (if that) are only going to make it and if it stays expanded, then its an added bonus for those teams.
I never said it was the Miners or Xplosion's fault. Kings. You need to read my post again. The X were forced into inactivity by the league while everyone else played.

psbf, maybe this inactivity will let Krauser have time to find his uniform.... I bet he left his jersey where Fountain misplaced his..seems the X would help keep up with the players uniforms so that they wouldn't look AWOL.

..had one relatively rusty game against Butte, and then was back to normal.
The only possible thing I could see the CBA doing differently is reversing the sites for the games to Pittsburgh, but the X probably couldn't have gotten the arenas available on such short notice. Pittsburgh had its scheduling problems during the season as it was.

The obvious answer: there were supposed to be 8 teams in the playoffs. Teams were promised a shot at advancement and the league office couldn't back down from that.
THEN some teams couldn't keep going. This is an obvious compromise solution. It might demonstrate, give or take a team or two based on who's in and who's out, which franchises are alive and which aren't.

At the begining of the season, nobody had any thoughts that GF would have to cease operations or that Atlanta would not have a place to play home games.
Alot of what if's and what could have been's this season.
What if Oklahoma's former owner wouldn't have been a dumb arse and kept things going. We had a heck of a record before he sold the team. Look what happened after the new owners took over. Great things.
What if Atlanta had a home to play their games at. Yes, they still might not have had anyone show up for the game, but at least they could still play.
What if GF had an owner that would pay his bills. The team could have had a nicer place to play instead of traveling 50 miles to play in a High School Gym.
The league needs to do a better job of making sure that owners can afford a team, ensure the place they are going to play is up playing standards and above all else keep the fans informed of what the heck is going on around the league.
I want to see teams being sucessful, not shut down!
We, here on OSC, should have to be the ones to get the news out about league matters.
Bring on the Playoffs. Cavs over SunKings tonight - 99-96

you're right its not the xplosion's fault. the fact of the matter is, when those teams came in here, the league had the xplosion put together a team for them so the league didn't look completely inept. and they were forced to play those games. and they did what they were supposed to do, 7-0 them. all the forfeits at the end of the year, that means nothing. i believe the xplosion had one more forfeit then the miners. if those teams would've kept in opperation, the xplosion would've 7-0'd them anyhow. its not like the two teams are seperated by 1 or 2 quarter points. you know, last year albany and minot were pretty close too. i believe minot had more wins actually. but they didn't have a 1 game play in, now did they?

actually its 24 quarter points that seperates the teams. that's over 3 full games! not nearly as close as minot and albany last year. crazy

Chill out, Coach Knox.
If the X are such a superior team then they'll handle their business and it won't be an issue. But crying over it helps nothing

All you people whining about the playoffs, think about this for a second.
Back in the 1980's, the CBA had overtime rules that stated that the first team to score 3 points in overtime won the game. Flat out. A 3-pointer - game over. That was later modified to the first team to LEAD by three points winning the game. Just think about that - game tied, going into OT, Boo Jackson hits his first three-pointer of the entire season, Miners Win! Or - John DeGroat kicks out to Chaz McCrommon, ball goes swish, Xplosion Win, game over!
Or they could do it like the ABA did in the playoffs, where the first team to score 10 points in double-OT wins. That's how Strong Island upset Indiana in the 2006 Great Eight (and put the rest of the tournament behind by two hours; they were the first game of the four-game preliminary round).

For the record, the Xplosion received 6 forfeit wins this season to our two, according to each teams schedule page. Do the math...that's 41.5 free quarter points to the Miners 14 (a difference of 27.5)...so throw that "24 quarter points ahead of the Miners" theory out the window. The series is 4-3 Miners...let's just see who mans up tonight and wins the big one! Sounds fair to me!
back to where the discussion was of our venue problems. That would not be an issue if the league had announced their format when the schedule was released.
