View Full Version : Atlanta at Minot
I'm watching the webcast. No announcer(s) but the PA can be heard and looks to be a great crowd.

If you listen really, really, close you can here somebody calling the game, but it is really faint. If there is any sound aside from basic gameplay you can't hear it

so for all those that laughed at the ATL guys for giving up 194 to EK.... seems they have pieced things together more defensively despite still losing as they havent given up 130 or more since as they ahve faced teams like Yakima and Minot..... makes the 194 even more impressive.
RGV gave it a great try but Yakama won, 98-94 in front of over 4,000. I did not get the exact number, unfortunately.

IMHO Yakima and Minot did not "Run up the score" against the Krunk. A true fan knows what the 194 points were actually about. Yes, scoring that many points was unique. I wasn't impressed by it, in fact I was disappointed. You've got to look at the whole picture.
Now to give Atlanta some kudos. They are getting more comfortable playing together, and are giving a good effort. A big "thank you" to the new owner. He's doing his best to put a respectable product on the floor to finish out the season.

I'm curious as to what you, as an implied "true fan", thinks the 194 was about.

Unless you watched the game, don't say the Miners ran up the score. Honestly, they could have put up more points if they really wanted to. Atlanta never used more than 10 seconds of the shot clock. Each possession was a 1 on 1 where players were trying to showcase themselves on game tape for whatever next team was going to pick them up. Once East Kentucky got to within range of the record, of course they gave it a run. You'd have done the same thing, so don't try and be all high and mighty.
Atlanta commited a huge number of fouls resulting in 51 points from free throws aka points with the clock stopped
Remember this is professional basketball, not 3rd grade rec league. There's still a shot clock which eliminates holding the ball. Are you supposed to turn down open layups?
Just because Minot couldn't come close to that figure doesn't mean you should get bitter
The official turnout, in Yakama was over 3,900. Does anyone know how many turned out at the Minot game?

I agree with both of you. The Miners were still fighting for a playoff spot when they played Atlanta, and the Krunk were competitive in the first half. It clearly got out of hand in the second. It also was the Miners last guaranteed home game of the season, so I am sure there was some incentive to put on a show for the home folks.
Yakama and Minot's strategy, with first place sown up and more veteran coaches, was to "get the points, get no injuries, and get the game over," I am sure.
It's easy to say "keep in under control," but harder to do sometimes with a 10-man roster. EK's subs (except for Mark King) basically played half the game against Atlanta.
