Chuck said that going into tonight the magic number for 3rd was 19.5 for E.K. to eliminate Albany....
Albany went down to Minot 5.5 to 1.5 tonite which should reduce the magic number to 14 for the Miners to wrap up third for that return trip to face Pitt.

If the team plays well, hoping we can get half that tomorrow (which would be the first 7-0 if I'm not mistaken) versus the Krunk who visits Pikeville.

I am hoping they will just replace the Albany/Pitt makeup game the 11th with E.K. play-in game if Albany is mathmatically eliminated.

Last year we ended our home season against Minot with the final game being a doubleheader with the Steelers. The X were blown out by the Skyrockets in a two game sweep. Needless to say they never made the playoffs.
This time, the X need to beat whoever our opponents will be following the doubleheader.
It still bothers me that you have Atlanta to host and we don't.

Yep, it's 14, and that takes into account that Pittsburgh matchup. So now the Miners can actually eliminate Albany straight out if they 7-0 ATL and 7-0 Minot.

the Xplosion attracted the record crowd(2,582) vs Atlanta. So I see no reason why we can't get at least that for the doubleheader on the 11th. But the X have to start promoting again.

Keep in mind that you got a forfeit win earlier this season in ATL whereas the league told the Miners they HAD to play in the same gym that the X were allowed to not play in due to temps in the 40's..... and this was when the Krunk was full rostered... before the financial struggles stripped the team to 5 players. So it seems the X have already benefitted from the Krunk, plus you get the GF forfeits...

the steelers being there will draw 2000.... if you add in the 3-500 that have interest in the X, plus the 1-200 that the Miners will have you should pull between 2400-2700 (perhaps 3000) if they replace the Patroons with the Miners

Regardless of whatever article was printed in the Troy Record, at this point there have been no points awarded based on forfiets for either Albany, East Kentucky or Pittsburgh. Albany remains at 19-22, East Kentucky at 23-21 and Pittsburgh at 23-18. If they do finally decide to give those points out, it will have little to no impact, as each team would receive at least two 7-0 victories (Albany would receive 3, the others 2). Not sure they'll even award those points at all

i just wish there was some sort of league announcement regarding the play-in game date so that fans desiring to travel can make arrangements given that it will likely be mid-week.

ot, a lot depends on whether the X promote. I remember seeing a lot of tv ads leading up to the doubleheader, which drew over 1,500. But I've seen nothing yet as far as the 11th, leading me to believe that they may be waiting for official word. The X website still has the last win over the Miners.

FO, I'm sure you are probably right. I emailed the league office and I received a replay saying "we did what we felt was best for everyone". That's nonsense(imo), but whatever. Given how they handled certain teams, I guess I should not be surprised. I'm just disappointed.

in the land of the terrible towel, if the steelers can't bring in 2000 fans alone, that speaks volumes to the disinterest the city has towards the Xplosion.... word of mouth alone that Franco Harris will be there as well as other current steelers (although I know that Hines Ward no-showed at a promotion earlier leaving a bad taste in many fans mouth, as Ward said publicly that he never agreed to be there and the X promoted him without his permission) should bring in 1000 autograph chasers.

If you hear a list of Steelers expected to be there, by all means, share with the board.

Where did you get that quote from? That's typical of the Steelers but I would have thought that Ward had more class.

perhaps it was the X that was classless by promoting his appearance without even securing the fact Ward would appear?

Hines Ward never agreed to appear. I've gone over this before. You can't no-show for something you weren't scheduled for in the first place.

thats what I was pointing out to psbf.... besides Franco Harris, no other Steelers have been mentioned as appearing on the 11th... I was also at the game where that announcement was made... they did mention a couple Steelers (Santonio Holmes for one) that played last year, but no mention of who was to appear this year. After the X promoted Ward's appearance earlier, it would be another disaster if no Steelers show up.

I'm no fan of the Steelers and this is one of the reasons why. I've emailed them in the past about this subject with no responses, to no surprise.
Franco Harris did make an appearence at an Xplosion game when we were in the ABA, as did his former Steelers teammate Lynne Swann. But I think the X need to work on their credibility with local supporters again. I'm not sure how it was lost. But I have sent the X emails which included suggestions on how to improve things. I have noticed updates on the X website, though.
