The Rapids.
As confirmed minutes ago on CTV Ottawa.
I assume the name is spelled Rapids although it could be Rapides.
I personally like it and was one name I had thought about. As speculated, a water theme. Carl Kiifner has been using a light blue colour on his blog for more than a month and readers of his blog speculated he was told what the name would be.
Watch tonight's six o'clock news to find out more, including what the logo will look like.

Not the name I picked & I think my name was better. However, looking forward to supporting the team this summer. One thing I have noticed that with the colours the Rapids have picked, 6 of the 8 teams in the League will have blue as the predominent colour. Not a good thing. I am looking forward to more player signings & I hope the team will be competative. Looks like the manager signed is very good in the PR field & should help to draw fans.

yes, i too have noticed the team colors, most who have blue as a predominant color. surf, skyhawks, nashau, quebec. yet these r the only temas i think of. the rapids, kinda have to be blue. so do the surf, and skyhawks, water is blue and so is the sky. nashua could be like a green and yellow or like fire engine red and yellow. quebec, doesnt have to be blue, they could be like pine green and gray with like some turqoiuse or something, maybe brown. i personally did not like the name of the skyhawks, when they came into the league 2 years ago, i now do, but at the time, i wanted the name to be referenced towards, the mountain lion, or like mountain men, because sussex county has a long history of outdoors folk, and the mountain lion was wiped out by the 1840's, but many believe some still are around, myself included.

Titanium, I'm curious to know why you think having many teams in the league using blue as their main color to be a bad thing.
I think Miles Wolff will do all he can to make the team competitive and he will probably do a great job at marketing too.
Won't the whole league become more competitive this year anyway because two teams folded? I'm thinking many teams will be playing around .500 this year. This means, given the league's playoff format, that almost every team has a shot.
Glad to hear you'll support the Rapids, Titanium. See you at the park. BTW, what name did you come up with?

If the biggest complaint about the Can-Am League is that too many teams have blue as their primary color, the Can-Am League is in pretty good shape.

I preferred the name...... Loggers........for the team. The colour thing was just an observation & not a real big problem with me. I simply think a variety of different team colours is better than 6 of the 8 teams having basically the same colour.
Your right, if thats the worst thing about the league, it's not that big of a deal.

Has changed to Rapidz. That's a Z at the end. Logo has also changed with red being the primary color.
Why? The team now has new owners who also own Zip, a DVD rental by mail company, like Netflix in the States. Zip's colors are red.
The initial concensus in Ottawa is that the original logo was better and the name RapidZ will take some getting used to. But we are all happy to have a team.
Anyone know if there are any other pro sport franchise with a nickname ending with Z?

More than there should be...especially in the state of Utah and especially if your team was founded in the "edgy" 90s.

Thanks Rams. I thought there was one but couldn't come up with it. I'm not a basketball fan. Any others? Minor league teams perhaps?
