So, Unca Joe loves the film "Semi-Pro" and wants everybody to see it, right?

Watch the "Age-Restricted Trailer" on the film's website:

http://www.semipromovie.com

Not too "professional, family-friendly," is it?

Yup, Joe's really gotten that low, to endorse a film that's gonna be rated R if this content isn't edited out...

It's got to be rated R, based on what I saw, doesn't it?

I have a feeling Joe didn't see it.

Can't wait to hear the complaints he gets from angry parents when they talk about the film with him...

Ya know, I bet if the Alaska Botox Advocates had a movie, he'd recommend it just for use of the initials!

I am told that as of yesterday afternoon, Mr. Newman has not seen the film. That according to someone on yesterday's conference call.

Maybe he'll wait on Netflix to release it.

Joe is gonna ride this one like a pony.

Pony??? Pony??? The shoes that failed to show up.

TheStandard, glad you brought up Pony. According to my source, at least some of the shoes have show up, along with bills for shipping, much to the disgust of Mr. Newman who is now claiming that Pony violated their contract. According to Mr. Newman, Pony was supposed to market special ABA shoes at retail outlets and stage an advertising campaign for that ABA product. Instead, Pony has just supplied some shoes. I was told he mentioned a "snarky" email he fired off to Pony regarding the situation. My source couldn't remember if the email concerned the shipping charges or the contract.

Just a reminder: The ABA of the film has a passing resemblance to the ABA of 1968-1976.

Actually more of a resemblance than this ABA has to that ABA.

This film isn't about this league. It's about (sorta) that league.

And Corbin Bernsen's film never happened. And never will happen.

Talked to a local Pony sales guy here in Southern Cal who was working on Pricing of Shoes for a BSN development team that I have. Joe knew of the shipping charges for all of the teams and that the ABA was responsible for them. The ABA was to have set up their own marketing plan and buy the shoes that were going to be the Special ABA shoes.

To Joe when he violates contract he then says they violated contract.

FAQ On The Film

Q: Why was the team called the Flint Tropics?
A: Because the Utica Wreckers was already taken.

I actually bought some Ponys about a month ago, the basketball ones, I think they are called Pony Quix

Got 'em for $69+ship on EastBay, and Ive been using them for a month and really like them. I was really suprised of the quality and they have given me no problems.

Its a shame that the ABA and Pony have their issues, because Pony makes a decent shoe, and in a better league, teams would actually being wearing the Pony stuff and Pony would be getting their advertisment

But they will always do things ethically, unlike other leagues.

The ABA is surely promoting the movie, "Semi Pro" ...

Jersey Express Forward Dezmond Morgan poses near the "Semi Pro" promotional posters from Saturday's game

And it appears on the ABA Home Page today.

Good Grief. Great link Magician. That photo looks real professional. Two movie posters that have the four corners taped to the white wall with jet-black marking tape. The posters aren't the same level either. Another coup for the ABA.

My 7 year old son has a picture torn out of a magazine of Giselle Bundchen taped to the wall of his tree fort that looks like its more professionally done than that. At least he rolled the tape up into a ball and put it behind the photo so it doesn't show.

You just simply couldn't make this **** up. Every single thing this league (sorry leaque) does backfires in some spectacular or eye rolling fashion.

Sadly Sam Hill is absolutely right, Joe is trying to make out this movie has something, anything to do with his little league (leaque). It has NOTHING to do with this. It would be the exact same thing if I went out to my Ford Explorer and got a paint brush and wrote "FERRARI" on the back in bold letters. My vehicle would have about as much in common with an Italian sports car as Joes Assinine Bankruptcy Association has with Semi-Pro.

In fact by spelling "FERRARI" correctly I would actually be somewhat ahead of the Gwizzlies.

Gladiators to Promote Will Ferrell ABA Film "Semi-Pro" at This Saturday Night's Home Game

02/15/08

Aliso Viejo, CA [February 15, 2008] - The OC Gladiators will be promoting the upcoming Will Ferrell film "Semi-Pro" based on the original ABA of the 1970's. New Line Cinema is working with the Gladiators to promote the movie ahead of the February 29th release and has provided a number of giveaways for the fans who will be attending the Gladiators home game this Saturday night at 7:15PM at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano.

I take it, OC may not have seen the very 1st post under this thread

Will and the movie management requested to come to VT to introduce "Semi Pro". They choose VT because the Heaves were 2007 ABA Champs and #1 the majority of this season. Heaves management declined because of the fighting in the movie and the message that this sends, especially in light of after the fighting that happened at the Manchester game. On a related note, the Rats have released 3 fighting players and they are all residing at Devil's Island.

That's a smart move by the Frost Heaves!

Maybe the ABA League office should be moved out of Indiana to Vermont.

Essentially, if it had not been for the Frost Heaves organization over the course of the last couple of seasons ...

There would be NO ABA anyway!

Sorry teams, but it's the truth.

To me, this doesn't seem like such a huge deal. If this wasn't the ABA I don't think it would be such an issue. A basketball movie draws interest to basketball.

You are correct ...

ABA ... INVITE PUBLIC TO NEW LINE CINEMA’S ''SEMI-PRO'' MOVIE PRODUCTION
http://www.abalive.com/news/releases/?newsid=2007031906006

People of all ages are welcome to join the fun and watch the stars as they play their parts as wild and crazy ABA basketball players from the 1970s.

“The movie brings back the great memories of the old ABA,” stated Richard Tinkham, founder of both the original ABA and the new ABA.

Those "memories" can be revisited by viewing the "Age-Restricted Trailer" on the film's website: :infun:

Actually, the fim has apparently been re-edited to get a PG-13 rating...But expect to see all these vulgar scenes in the unrated DVD release.

Sorry everyone!

Of course Joe is still completely oblivious to this whole thing. He just keeps sitting in his basement typing up ridiculous 'Ask the CEO' questions, which he then answers, firing off emails with 40-50 people cc'ed on it, seeing if random guy in ______ check clears the bank and entering as 'Connie from Indianapolis' in the win a houseboat vacation contest.

The movie could be a XXX movie about a working girl trying to break into the pornographic movie industry for all he knows. The Joe Newman ABA has absolutely NOTHING to do with this movie.

Actually, the film has apparently been re-edited to get a PG-13 rating ...

Click below to read about the PG-13 rating ...

http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp

A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them.

A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category.

I thought the ABA was only for 'G/General Audiences - All Ages Admitted' ?

Hey Parents ... Did you know that the ABA Entertainment is PG-13?

The next time some sucker, oh sorry, some investor calls Joe looking for a team I can almost guarentee Joe will mention the movie Semi-Pro as a reason to invest and buy a market reservation in the league.

He will say something like "Hey Hollywood is on board, you need to be as well. "

Maybe A1sports can block the caller id and call him up again, pretending to be interested in a team. I think he's done it 3-4 times and each time comes away swearing Newman is the worlds greatest salesman.

Hollywood was on board in the ABA last season and we all saw how well that turned out.

Somehow, I have my doubts that the "family-friendly" ABA venues include dancers wearing niqabs.

Just saying. We already have plenty of reasons to boycott this leaque.

There was a Semi-Pro promotion at the Toros game Saturday. White guys with Brady perm wigs and headbands, gimmie cups and big foam hands with "We're #4!" printed on them and four fingers extended rather than just one. The kids seemed to like it....
