This morning on the Detroit Fox affiliate's local news they interviewed an official with the City of Troy, MI about the merger of Sears and K-Mart. What does this have to do with indy baseball? Well, K-Mart's world headquarters is in Troy (suburban Detroit) and, since the new mergerd company will be headquartered in surburban Chicago, that leaves the property in Troy most likely vacant. The city official mentioned that one of the proposed uses for the property is for a minor league baseball stadium. Now, I am speculating way to early, and I was disappointed by the failure to get a stadium built for a Frontier League team in Mt. Clemens (also in suburban Detroit) last year. Earlier this year, I read somewhere that the Northern League wanted to put 2 teams in Canada in 2005 and 2 teams in Southeastern Michigan in 2006. The first part of that has come true, so why not the second part? Right now the nearest minor league baseball teams are the Toledo MudHens and the Lansing Lugnuts. I, for one, would be happy to support minor league baseball in SE MI.
