Just wondering if the Stl Rots/ KC Knights ABA game was played today. No updates at ABALIVE or on the team's websites.

The game was not played. I had called Latasha Smith, the Rot's GM, yesterday. She descirbed the schedule as being ''totally wrong". The schedule was updated today.

(sigh)

You'd think they could have updated the schedule before the season started, you know?

And you wonder why this league has a bad rap.

Is anyone in St. Louis even aware of the Rots? I wish I could go to a game, but in lieu of that I'd really appreciate any information possible. Thanks.

Oh the game happened.

Houston Caldwell was there too.

2,400 of the most rambuncious(sp) fans ever.

Houston was there, he saw it.

But he estimates 5,300 were there, as the 10,000 seat arena was over half full.

:twisted:

dear SK10171996;
Does your internet handle represent your date of birth? This would make you 8 years of age, and therefore excuse some of your posts.
If it does not, I agree with Micro67 that you are a dimwit and a complete idiot,to boot.
I wasn't at any games in St Louis, real or imaginary. But I WAS at one in Nashville, and there is a Nashville City Paper article on this site that agrees in toto with my accounts of events.
You probably haven't read the article, because you only look at things that confirm your point of view. If you've followed any of my posts, you would know that I am anything but an ABA "homer". This league has taken plenty of black eyes, but there have been a few points of light in this league. The Nashville franchise has an opportunity to be one of them, and is off to a good start. But you only want to see the bad, because you have an IQ that doesn't allow you to comprehend that a league with many problem franchises could actually spawn a few good ones.
But of course, the Internet, with its fake handles, allows you to imply that I am a liar with no fear of my ever discovering your real identity (I, by the way, am using my real name).
If we ever met face to face, I assure you you would not be nearly so bold.

1. My handle is my kids' initials and their date of birth.

2. Lighten up people. I was simply razzing Houston at previous messages stating he attended the Nashville-RKOGeorgia game. That's all. I did read the article. I've seen as low as 800, and as high as 2100 or so attended the game. I do wish Nashville all the luck in the world. If they continue to do well, hopefully they could get into the NBDL or CBA.

3. Check my messages. I've said negative things on TWO franchises: Jacksonville (my hometown) and Las Vegas (where I'm at now). If it wasn't for this site or ABALive.com, I wouldn't know Las Vegas has a team. We've had ZERO marketing here since they got here. They never make the paper, tv, or anything. And if sports radio talks about the ABA here, they poke fun at Joe Newman about the crazy ideas he had..(all hispanic team in New Mexico, all Chinese team in Vancouver, etc.)

In a nutshell, it was a joke. Lighten up.

Its all good; I have my oversensitive moments,and this was one of them.
And looking at some of the upcoming games, I wouldn't mind being in the CBA or NBDL; there are a few home dates that worry me right now.

I'm sorry too. Name calling and whatnot is not my style and I'm embarassed that I stooped to that level.

Dear SK;
You're right, everybody needed to lighten up and that happened. This came after I had spent a day being bashed by the ABA-critics, because my honest reportage of the Rhythm opener had been contradicted by one paper (the Tennesseean), who grossly underreported the crowd size. The Nashville City Paper and USBasket ran articles on the game that were accurate accounts. If you'd ever like to attend a Rhythm game, either you or Mekongesi would be welcome as my guests.
This team has had to overcome several obstacles, the biggest being that they are in a town where the Titans, Vanderbilt, and UT are the big news. So coverage of the Rhythm's history-making female head coach isn't as great as an out-of towner would think; stories on this franchise have been on page 4-8 of the sports section. So the 2000-2100 fans who made it to the opener were about double what I expected to show up. This is a tribute to some very hard work on the part of Rhythm management, which may be the YOUNGEST management group in the history of pro sports (Owner, GM, Head Coach, Dance Team Coordinator are all under the age of 25). The college gym where the Rhythm play seats 4500-5000 fans, but the College team that plays there usually plays to crowds of under 1000.
The homework is being done in Nashville that isn't being done in many ABA cities. We all love minor league sports, which are the best affordable entertainment in America. Sorry I got a little thin-skinned, but I've been taking some verbal abuse the last 24 hours.

Which brings up the point--a point that has been made before. Why does the ABA locate in big cities (or put a big city on their team name) when you can't get decent press coverage?

Here in Gary the minor league teams get front page sports coverage and one day a week get an entire page pull-out section. Why? There is absolutely nothing going on (positive) in Gary. No competition for professional sports news for sure.

Thank goodness minor league sports came to Gary! Now we have someplace to go on Saturday nights...Sunday afternoons at 3:05pm too, according to this year's schedule. :)

That was pretty much my point in my post in the "For the ABA bashers..." thread. The Rhythm are one of the of the well organized teams that I was referring to. I guess my point got lost in the 800 v. 2100 "debate".

What I am wondering is how are the crowds going to be after a few scheduled games that never happen because the other team doesn't show up to play? Inter-squad scrimages won't keep 2.5k coming through the doors. These were 2 of the few teams that seem to have their acts together. What about the rest?

It's too bad but, the teams that actually have organized theirselves and are ready to put a respectable product on the floor will suffer at the hands of those who have done nothing (i.e. "my" Jammers) or next to nothing (too many to name).

4 days and counting for the Jammers. They put out a release today saying they were playing, so I sent them an e-mail this morning asking how to get a ticket. I got a response on par with the amount of marketing they have done so far. That means I got NO RESPONSE!!!! They won't even do direct one on one marketing. I'm sure they are too busy being "out there in the community" like they say they are to respond to my e-mail. What a joke. Still no website, complete roster, marketing in any way, shape or form, no tickets on sale, or a way to get them if they were. Now I've got to go on Saturday. I have to see for myself how many people show up, or if a team even does. After all, their front office still outnumbers the roster about 4 to 1. If I go, I'll count the people in the "crowd." I shouldn't even have to take off my shoes to keep count! :P

The St. Louis and Chicago franchises - do they even really exist?
