Please find the following link to the Portland Reign and their financial difficulties. It also tells of the team losing a money investor. A week away and the people involved are only 85% sure they will begin the season. Joe,, please for the love of the game, quit giving people franchises who aren't ready and can commit financially for three seasons!

Calgary is out for this year and a new team that is pleased to provide, fun affordable basketball will be asusming their schedule. Now if this were a true professional league, my travel arrangements would have been made in August. So this switching at the last moment stuff should be dropped. Of course that is just me, organized and thorough.

This one below may be my favorite. Coach Steppe talks about how players are released the NBA and how they will hold a tryout to see if they can blend in with his squad. I have good news for you coach, most NBA players that have been cut or waived are good enough to blend in with your squad. But newsflash, they have agents you call, contacts to go through, etc. You sign them, they dont tryout for you, even for $50. And in some instances, you may not be able to afford them with you salary situation. I say hold your tryout camp, take your $50 from unsuspecting players who have no chance to play in the South Pole, and use that money to pay the bills and not yourself. Don't fold because I think you have an opportunity to prove yourself worthy of a coaching job at the next level.

Mustangs continue vet camp and tryouts

November 13, 2004 - Atlanta, GA. Brook Steppe, Head Coach of the ABA Atlanta Mustangs and new owner Arthur Crawford announced that Veterans Training Camp began on November 8th and will continue until all roster slots are filled.

According to Steppe, "We've put together a pretty decent squad. We'll be competitive. However, because of the large number of players recently released from NBA and other teams, we will have a tryout camp on November 18th and 19th and see if we can find a few players to blend in with the ones that we are interested in signing."

And finally some good aBA news. Heres to more of the good stuff!

Nashville wins season opener - Nov. 14, 2004 - by Gianni Pascucci

The Nashville Rhythm have won the 2004-2005 ABA Season Opener, defeating 109-88 the visiting Reigning Knights of Georgia. In front of 2100 screaming fans at Allen Arena, Dontae Jones (201-F-75, college: Mississippi St.) led the Rythm with 41 points.

In front of 2100 screaming fans LOL The article on oursportscentral.com says it had about 800 fans at the game. Here we go!! Plus the article says they are playing Gwinnett Saturday. I guess they weren't informed of the rotating teams.[/i]

Crowd size in the Pasucci article was pretty accurate (actual turnstile count-2044 fans). The Tennessean knows about as much about the size of the Rhythm's crowds as they do about the Gwinnett Gwizzlies, which is next to nothing. I personally attended this game, and the stands were roughly half full in a basketball arena that seats 4500-5000 fans.

I am glad that there were people in attendance to see Nashville. That is one of maybe a handful of organizations that when they speak, it is generally how it is. Not how they hope it is. Whether or not other ABA teams can keep the team afloat will be the wait and see attitude by many observers.

Is it me or does the name Reigning Knights of Georgia sound more like an AAU team than a professional name?

I heard that New Jersey pulled out for this year, anyone have truth to that?

Now that Calgary moved, will they refund all or any money accepted?

Anyone hear from St. Louis and the Rot's organization?

Motown has signed three players with extensive backgrounds. That is all dandy, but if they took more time filling out their rosters and less time filling out their front office staff, maybe they would have had their squads selected.

I truly want the ABA to do well because I believe that basketball needs a minor league. But it needs a minor league that fulfills promises and seasons. Good luck to all teams in the league.

New Jersey is still in. That rumor was posted on usbasket, but removed.

Thanks for the clarification on the New Jersey front. Is the team ready for the season? I talked with Ron earlier this fall and he seemed to be on the ball for the most part.

I also wanted to clarify that my good luck comment to the ABA and their current list of teams is legit as are my concerns.

The team is very prepared for the season, I had a chance to talk to Ron today, and the team is ready to go. :D
