 What a shame, the OC traded 2006 MVP 1B/DH Peanut Williams to the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League !!
I really enjoyed watching Peanut when the OC came to town.
The GBL seems to always trade away the top players to the other Indy leagues..guess they are more into developement..

What a loss to the GBL. Peanut not only brought out the best in OC, but in every other GBL city. The NL seems to be coming apart at the seams; hope Peanut doesn't become a victim of the surge.

Guys...don't forget that sometimes in the indy leagues, trades are in the best interest of the player. Maybe Peanut really wanted to go there for some reason. He has bounced around the indy leagues for a while so maybe he has friends there or, even though he is from Texas, maybe he has family there. Unlike the pros where guys get a phone call that tells them they have been traded to somewhere, in the indy leagues, sometimes a player tells management he wants to go somewhere else and then management works out a trade so they can get something out of the transaction. There are some great books on the subject of indy ball and I am sure your local GM (or even ex-local GMs like Ed) will give you the run-down on personnel management. I am by no means an expert on the subject but thought I'd add a different perspective to be considered here.

You are correct - players in Indy ball will often tell the team where they played that they would like to play closer to home, go somewhere where they can earn more money, etc. I don't know, for sure, what drove the decision to trade Peanut, but my feeling is that it was a combination of several things - I don't think the Flyers would have just traded him without his desire to play elsewhere, make more money, etc.
I wish Peanut the best! I got to know him very well, and he is a great man, and a heck of a ballplayer.
Best of luck, 'Nut! You will certainly be missed here in OC.

Peanut called us and to confirm, he not the OC initiated the trade. They made him a deal he didn't want to pass up... one the OC couldn't begin to match... Good luck Peanut, we will be following your progress! We will miss you lots! :( :-D

but how could the flyers give him a deal when he's already under contract with OC?

Either party can allow a contract to be voided, not just in baseball, but in the real world, too. In the bigs that's probably rare, but in independent ball I'm sure it's not that unusual.

Thanks everybody for all the insight and background about Peanut's departure. I learn so much when I listen to those who well understand Indy Ball. Good luck Peanut, may your dreams all come true!:D
